Hey all,

I'm pondering buying a 1st Gen Honda HR-V as my work and tow truck for light building rest/refurb I do. Vans work out way too expensive and I'd rather have the reliability and optionality of a softroader.

So, I am struggling to understand does anyone know if it's a timing belt or chain? if so, on a 17 y/o vehicle how many changes would you expect to see in the service book?

I would also appreciate any feedback on issues with them. I know the CVT can be a bit of trouble but fixable with a kit from Honda?

Also, to confirm, they don't have cruise control? I also saw another one (51 plate) alleging it had traction control which i'm sure is wrong?

No experience of CVT but I own a manual HR-V on an X plate, currently at 122k miles, definitely Cambelt mine was changed on mine just before I bought it at 104k and I think they are good for 35k (?) miles.

No cruise control sadly, it would be very useful, mine came with a tow bar fitted and all I have towed is a FF1600 on a light trailer, no traction control that I am aware of either, other feedback which may help is 37mpg pretty much however you drive it, mine has been clockwork mechanically, but check the rear arches and sills for rust, mine just failed the mot on this, but i like it so I am looking for another, probably the VTEC version (extra 20 bhp and a few more mpg).

They handle fairly well once you get used to a bit of roll smile other things to mention, check the handle on the rear hatch as they have a habit of sticking, WD40 helps here, I have seem mentions of rear doors sticking too.

Overall I am happy with the HR-V, and as I mentioned after 18k miles and 14 months, I am after another one, hope this helps and if I can help more just shout.
