Tax due on a 55 plate S2000.

As per attached, the V11 reminder already states a ridiculous £198 for 6 months and £360 for the year.

Went to pay online and the site says £217.25 for 6 months and £395 for the year. A ludicrous increase.

I note the V11 states the rates of duty are correct at time of print. If a change in budget, you may need to pay a different rate.

Since issuing the V11, there has been no change in budget in reference to RFL.

Of course, I’ve tried the total waste of time that is the DVLA. The message says we’re too busy right now, try again another time.

It’s a liberty at the V11 rate, let alone the revised rate on the Gov site.

Any ideas as to what’s occurring? Thanks.

You have been quoted the correct amount, see band K: https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables/rates-f...

Your car is also the super cheap S2000 to tax, compared to Mar 2006 on (band L?).

The same was true for my 2005 Alfa GT (3.2 V6).

My annual mileage is quite low, so for me that represents > 50p per mile.

Thieves 🙄

Thanks for clarifying team.

Yes, part of the reason for buying the 55 plate was for the cheaper rate, however not sure I can justify keeping it if the rate climbs again. And for what, the roads/infrastructure in Guildford and the southern villages are horrendous.

In reality it’s only gone up £3 per month. Hardly worth even worrying about in the grand scheme of things

Bit harder to justify when I’ve been out of work since November.

Good point.. I like to keep operational unless roads are salty. May have to in the winter if a career/job doesn’t materialise.

My MY00 S2000 was £182.50 June 2007 - quite an increase in 16 years.

Feel free to DD an additional £3 per month to a charity of your choice given the insignificant amount it seems to represent. Keep increasing it each year too.

Sure, why not.

It’s not a surprise that VED goes up pretty much every year (it shouldn’t be anyway) and tbh if £3 per month is the difference between you being able to afford to keep an S2000 or not, then you really probably shouldn’t be owning the car, job or no job.

£3 is, by virtually any yardstick an insignificant amount of money (per month) for an increase on anything, for anyone, if you disagree, well, you’re wrong.

VED went up 10% this year. For some reason it didn’t hit the headlines. Wish I could increase my income by 10% just like that.
Rotrex Kid most of what you post is interesting and insightful, but falling into the trap of judging others’ decisions based on limited information about unenviable circumstances is not flattering.
OP I feel for you. I have an S2000 which I run 6 months of the year and it’s a ‘99 so (other than an import) the cheapest to tax. I also have an old VW T5 as my regular vehicle which sees the road 5-10 times a month and falls into the £700 pa bracket (the same as the post March 2006 S2000s). It’s not a small amount of money, it’s a relentless increase on a financial obligation for which I see no improvement, and I resent it!

If £3 a month really is the difference between the OP being able to afford to keep a 2 seater sports car on the road because he is currently out of work, then he really should

A. Sell the car now and use the money to help see him through a tough time or
B. Take the car off the road and save the equivalent of £30+ per month on the road tax alone.

£3 per month really is neither here nor there in the world we currently live in. Your shopping/phone bill/electric/gas/whatever has gone up in multiples of that amount in the last year, so if the £3pm really is the straw breaking the camels back, the car has to go.

My car did 800 miles last year, is £400 to tax and £300+ to insure, I love it and every time I drive it I enjoy it, if I lost my job I would be loathed to sell it, but if it was that or eat (because if £3pm really is enough to cause hardship, it must be tough) it would be gone.

In fact, OP, I’ll send you £36 if you need it, genuinely, I am not being flippant. If times are hard for you and having your S2k on the road will help see you through it and give you some sense of relief, freedom and hope, I will happily help you out. Just let me know and I’ll get in touch.

I think it's an RPI linked increase so not unpredictable.

£400 a year is quite a lot on VED, but on the upside your S2000 isn’t depreciating.

Will you do a group buy for all s2k owners? asking for a friend...

I’ll buy all the cars off them for 50% of the market value to free up the cash for them to survive. I’m nice like that.
