I think the imported cars even if they do come with a history its all in Japanese so unlikely most of us could decipher it anyway lol!

Have you been on the DC2 forum, there are usually a few well cared for examples for sale in there too. Its a good site for info and help, and the blinkers aren't quite as wide as other one make forums I've come across.

Can't comment on that advert obviously as its one pic and some text, there is no way to tell from that tbh.

I think it depends on your budget and your attitude to risk:-

£8k+ - UKDM minter or JDM 98
£c.7k - UKDM good or pre-imported JDM (96/98)
£<6k - JDM 96 new import or UKDM older

UK cars will be less risky as you can check the history, but a JDM '98 is probably worth a bit more IF you're happy not knowing how it's been treated. And you'll get a lower mile JDM '96 if your budget is lower...
Jap auction ratings give you some guide, but they're not perfect. Plus you'll need to factor in SVA'ing it for the UK (rear fog light, mph conversion on speedo, etc.), undersealing it (ASA-effing-P!), and probably new wheels and front brakes if it's a '96 (bigger brakes don't fit under JDM '96 wheels).

Just a quick post to answer some of the things people were unsure about.

All 98 Spec JDMs come with HIDs as standard, and yes Dan, a slightly different rear bumper.

Regarding imports, no history is common but as has been said, even when they do have history its in Japanese so not always much use. The speedo will come across reading KM/H and the odometer will be in KM. You can have the speedo converted to MPH but the odometer will only change to miles at the point of conversion. So in other words if you have a car with 100,000KM on the clock when you convert, that will stay as it is, and it will then go up in miles, so you would have a mixture.

Also, the added costs of importing that have been mentioned. A good import company should include this in the price they are quoting you. And an SVA is only needed for cars under 10 years old, so at the moment earlir Integras don't require one, and as of next year, neither will 98s.

However, as well as the things mentioned as being needed for SVAs, a set of non HID headlights is needed as all cars running factory fitted HIDs in this country must have light washers.

Really?! I had no idea that was the case. Does that apply to all new cars with HIDs as well? I personally think washers 9 times out of 10 ruin the lines on the front of a car, but if its legislation then fait enough.
