I believe Honda claim that they've never seen an engine failure which is attributable to the VTEC components; but this isn't the same as saying no VTEC engine has ever failed.

Exactly, the VTEC is just the engine controller that allows the car to come on cam... that bit has never failed, unlike BMW's VANOS system wink

biggrin The good old Vanos!

Yep the VTEC part of the engine is quite simple. Hydraulic lifters which are actuated by a VTEC solenoid, basically.

There is so little to go wrong, that the claim that one has never failed is quite an easy one!
