How badly do 19s stuff up the ride of the current UK CTR?

One I'm thinking of buying has 17s, but I went out in the demonstrator which has 19s and on the motorway I was being bounced around quite a bit. Not horrendously, but enough to make me think I'd get fed up on a long journey!

So do they make a big difference? I would be happy to leave it on the 17s.

Hi i work for honda in herts and they dont seem to make to much of a difference its still very stiff and it can depend on the car some ctr's are faster than others sounds silly but we have all spotted the same thing is it a gt or just a type r

From things I've heard and read, larger rims degrade the ride significantly. IIRC Autocar lamented the ride quality of their CTR as a major downfall.

It's a Red GT - Jan 2008, 800 miles on clock, £15.5k which seems good value.

Think I will go back with my driving licence and take the demo out on my own.

HI guys i think you'll find the new type are has 18"s as standard so they make littel difference in the ride have had manny bumpy rides in them

Cheers, I was just scanning around t'web and I noticed they were 18s. 19s do look nice too! I did notice that it wouldn't sit still on the motorway!

ok mate well have fun if you do take one out they are fun but not as good as the old ones but thats just our opinion,ever thought about a mazda three mps they are pretty quick two and they are practcal two

The 19's do look good, but if i wanted to drive it i would prefer the 18's.

19`s do look much better than the 18`s and to be honest my mate bought one with the 19`s and the one we test drove was on 18`s, no difference still a backbreaking ride. you really do feel every bump in those cars. not so im my focus st which the type-r keeps up with until i hit about 80 or 90 and then im off. he was on about supercharging it for around £2500 to get around 270bhp then was sad when i told him i could get mine chipped to that for £500.

do like the new type-r`s though, good car, much better than the old one.

My bro has a Focus ST, and whilst I like it, I don't think I'd buy myself one - I've gone off the CTR now - after thinking about it the ride would get on my tits on long journeys. I think I'll wait for the Scirocco to come out, maybe buy one or see if Golf GTi prices fall.

Scirocco is a good shout - well worth a look and should be solid residuals for a year or two.

I own a 08 CTR GT (on 18" rims) and the ride is fairly tame. I Don't find it harsh at all and it is really smooth on motorway runs. I owned a clio 182 prior to this and the ride was much harder and you felt every bump.

have you driven a golf gti? if your brother has an st drive that then the golf and im sure you will prefer the focus. i thought the interior was ugly and boring and it was boring to drive and had no engine sound at all. seriously overrated in my and my type-r owner friends opinion, much preferred the civic in most ways except the external looks and lack of torque. (personally i like a bit of torque which u do get in the golf but some people like to thrash their car to get it going).

i may be biassed as i have an st but when we test drove the civic and golf it was the civic that shone, he wanted an st but i told him he would be a sheep.

I've driven all 3 - my bro's focus didn't feel that fast, the seat was too high and it rattles all over the place. Other than that it's okay - oh hang on, no it's not - the economy is ste! Way worse that my current 530i Sport!

The Civic felt good to steer, but not that quick and I know I would get fed up of bouncing along the motorway - and I had a Mini with 17" runflats and plenty of other really stiff cars.

The Golf I drove just felt like then perfect combination for day to day use and fun days out! Just not happy about paying the premium they seem to command at the mo - I think the Scirocco will be worth the money though, but I never buy a car without driving it first!

MAybe I should just buy the old 996 911 I really want but that scares the st out of me!

very suprised you enjoyed the golf as we found it just so boring. and my st has no rattles at all and the seat can be lowered right down, but each to their own. economy isnt good in general stop start everyday driving about (24-26mpg)but i got 32mpg on a 2 hr run the other day which is very reasonable.good luck wit your pick.

I've done 52k miles in my FN2 mostly on the motorway and had no problems at all, compared to my old type r its much softer. It's no jag xj mind and is hard but not so much that its hard to live with.

As has been said the 19's won't ruin the ride at all, i couldn't tell the difference between them.

Not wanting a bun fight here but an ST won't drop a type r above 80, they are near on identical in the performance stakes.

the type r maybe a bit quicker than the focus but its certianly not as nice looking as the focus i wouldn't own either unless i was given one some hope but there are much better cars out there which i would own

Looks are always going to be a personal choice but what i hate the most about the rear of the new ctr is cleaning it, it's a right pain in the arse with all those angles.
