ive never owned one but by all accounts nothing like the old 1.6 vti/sir's
depends what you want it for? if its for a hothatch type then no, id suggest a type s civic thats assuming the type r's are out of reach insurance/price wise. but if its for just a normal everyday run around then you really cant go wrong.

I have a 55-plate Type-S. 2-litre 160hp i-VTEC engine and stiffer, lower suspension than 'normal' Civics. 16-inch wheels with 205/55 tyres but some are fittted with the optional 17" wheels (225-45 tyres?). Has the 5-door body and not so extreme as the Type-R but is group 12 insurance. Better performance than the Sport although not so sporty looking. Seats are half-leather but not sports.

It was nippy around town and got up to 70mph quick enough on the motorways. Very very economical, 400 miles to a tank of £40 usually. For a normal everyday hatchback, its was very refined to drive. Never had any problems with rattles or squeeks. Reliabilty over 18 months was typical Honda. Nothing went wrong, not one warranty claim.
Interior well screwed together, dials and knobs feel solid and durable. Theres a sense of quality about the cabin. White dials complement the sporty type-r style bodykit and seats well.
Also, very cheap to insure.Cat 1 alarm as standard as well. For a city car, its ideal. Clmiate control adds as a small luxury.

I've got one, Had it for 2 years, it was my first car 
I absoulty love it, Ok There not "Quick". But they do they job. Very good MPG When not driven like a nut. and they look good too.
I mean Insurance is So good on them. I was 17 and got insured for £1200. And im a lad. ha. So yeah im chuffed with mine .
