Still looks like a bag of absolute sh*te. Face it, the new Civic is an eyesore and not even Mugen can sort it out.
The shape before this looked the best.
Completely disagree, I think the old car looked plain - the new Civic really is a bold design. The shape before this looked the best.
its slower than the old one and not as fun to drive.

For those with a PS3 and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, there's a Best Motoring (Japanese Top Gear that's actually factual and far better for car enthusiasts) video where they compare the JDM Civic Type RR with a 'standard' Type R, an aerodynamically modified (with standard engine and such) Type R which I think was called the Modulo, then an S2000 and S2000 type Zero, which only differs to the standard S2000 in it's aerodynamic modifications.
The point, obviously, was to test if huge spoilers and such actually helped around a track. After 5 laps of Tsukuba, the order was the Modulo in first, then the RR, then the CTR, the S2000 type Zero and the S2000 came last. Made for interesting viewing, given the layout of the track with its flat-out corner which comes just before a fairly long straight section you would have thought the S2000's would have at least beaten the CTR, but apparently not.

This on a JDM Best Motoring DVD or the US compilation one by Zigzag ? and if the latter is it on the same DVD as the GTR review, or is there a new edition ?The point, obviously, was to test if huge spoilers and such actually helped around a track. I really don't understand what Mugen are thinking with this though - huge spoiler that doesn't suit it at all and a 5 door version only??
This looks brilliant, tbh I don't care what they bring here as long as they start bringing this, th4 door and the Integra.
The more variants the more sales and the more they'll eat into the general market share...choice is good.
As for why they've done it to the 5 door ...why not?
Evo and Scooby almost solely 4 doors...performance doesn't go \down as you increase the door count does it? if it does, weld up 'em up!

If we must put up with the watered down Euro models then this is welcomed.
I guess the reason we get Brit built tosh is to avoid the import limitations from Japan. Isn't it time this was lifted? I like the Euro type R but I like the JDM performance. What's stopping them selling JDM chassis with Euro body?
Oh, and if I hear another bloody 'driven through ripspeed' comment or the infernal 'mapped' comment again I'll go loopy!
This is interesting, as I used to have an M3 and in the US they had the watered down version...and the guys in the US of A used to complain about that...I guess the reason we get Brit built tosh is to avoid the import limitations from Japan. Given the UK market, ie its desire for the high performance end of the market it is madness that Mugen dont provide the car here, a good percentage of their non-grey market sales would be in the UK.

I prefer 3dr to 5dr hatchbacks. Those big spoilers look OK on Evo's etc but I don't think they suit the Civic at all.
Any more words of wisdom?
The Jap CTR FD2 looks like an Accord rather than a Civic.
It doesn't strike me as looking remotely sporty....but I guess it's all down to individual taste.
It's stiffer, more powerful...but is a big car, so what does it weigh?
(I know Vicki drove it round a track quicker than an FN2, but how would it compare to a DC2 or DC5?)

Quicker then both the DC2 and DC5 by a long shot the car is amazingly quick. It doesn't strike me as looking remotely sporty....but I guess it's all down to individual taste.

look at the best motoring clips to see it in action against the mentioned cars.

(edit: It's in Japanese with subtitles, so I'm guessing its the JDM Best Motoring DVD, especially since it was uploaded to Gran Turismo TV by the developers who are Japanese as well. I'm guessing the US Zigzag one is dubbed?)

Thing is. Car pictured isn't a Type R... Type R's are only 3 door!
So what the hell is it? They made a 5 door Type R than attached a load of tat to it and now its an RR?
By the way, before lays into me I drive a DC2
I can recall that they where talking about producing a 5 door type R as well. To compete with the likes of the Focus ST and Gold GTI 5 doors. Its probably one of thoseSo what the hell is it? They made a 5 door Type R than attached a load of tat to it and now its an RR?

Civic so bad - it looked amazing on 5th Gear the other day and killed the S2000.
Apples with oranges. Stock S2000 vs track-day biased modified hot-saloon - the Mugen RR (AIUI) runs on evens stiffer suspension than the stock FD2 and wears track-day rubber - RE01-R IIRC. The rubber alone would be worth over a second a lap even at Millbrook, so the 5th gear article was just ever-so-slightly misleading!!!Even if Honda officially sold the FD2 in the UK i would be surprised if it sold in huge numbers, The latest type R (FN2) is less hardcore and has more luxury because that's what most people(except Honda mentalists(i include myself in this)) want, Honda want to make as much money as they can. Correct? So by making the new car compromised in certain aspects they attract more people who considered other Type R varients too hardcore.
I believe you can spec a new UK Type R to have little or no luxury and guess what they have only sold a handful..
