I have just recently brought a honda civic coupe vti with the legendary b16. Just recently had a new head gasket and had the head re skimmed but the engine light stills comes on and off? help please.

could be a variety of sensors/other problems etc, can you be more specific?

as im driving the light will turn on,and if i switch off my engine it will go off. but it will come on again after a while, ive only had the car for 2 weeks and just started doing it after i sorted out the head gasket?

Maybe reset the ecu. Remove the battery connection for a few hours and when you re-connect it the ecu should have reset and you may solve the problem

Also has the car got a de-cat exhaust? there would have been a sensor when the cat was in place. You may need a dummy sensor.

If your worried, take it to a decent garage where they can read the fault code from the ecu and diagnose the problem much more quickly than me guessing!. lol

the car has not been modified no decat, the car is booked in a garage on thursday so should find out then fingers crossed. thanks for your help mate.

Can you read the code on these cars yourself?

On my car there is a blue plug under the dash that can be shorted, when you turn the ignition the light will flash and tell you the code.

If you look on a more civic cpecific forum you should be able to find out the code reading procedure and a list of what the codes mean.

Its probably just a sensor thats failed and if it is it should be an easy fix.
