I thought you might be more intelligent considering the decent points that you stated, but obviously not !! ...or maybe a chav. Hard to tell...
Sad Really !!
So I am bored of you and all if you cant be bothered to talk cars !!
PMSL!!!
Read the smileys - I was being tongue-in-cheek with you, but I'm sadly not surprised you took it literally.
Now go and pick your toys up and prove you can play nicely with grown ups, then we might bother talking to you again!

Oh and I really should stop feeding the troll. I just can't help it.
You see what happens when you play with animals that haven't been house-trained Bert...they sh't all over the place and then someone has to clean it up!
At least warn a mod so they can put some sheeting down or something eh?!?
The fact that this thread is still running 5 years on , in which time a an all new CTR has been launched (which some say isn't as focussed as the model it replaced, but i'll leave that for another time) is staggering! Quite why this car can split opinions so wildly is hard to understand.
If you were looking for a cheap(ish) hot hatch a few years ago this stood out like a sore thumb. Yes, the VTEC engines are peaky but that's a feature you can either accept or don't. I've never driven an Type R but i've had two Civics. I currently drive a VTi and i love raggin' (quiet roads of course).
The steering feel has also been criticised for lacking feel. That's something i can relate to but can live with.
I definatley think that it deserved it's cult status. It was one of the first hot hatches to offer almost 200 bhp at a reasonable price. Also, it wouldn't have won so much praise from What Car? and Top Gear to name two if it had been as bad as some have said on here.

On that note, congratulations thread, you are now into your 5th semester!!
4 year = 8 semesters... so surely someone should have corrected that "5th" to a "9th"???On that note, congratulations thread, you are now into your 5th semester!!

Ok im a little late finding this thread and i must admit i havent read all 30+ pages of it however i would just like to put a few points across.
I own a 2004 (facelift) Nighthawk Black CTR with AC and in my opinion its the best and the worst car ive ever owned..
The problem is it goes back to that saying 'Horses for courses' - I previously owned a Golf Mk4 GTi (150) and thought that it done everything 'good' but nothing 'great' The CTR does somethings 'GREAT' and other things 'OK'
Having owned a car with a turbo and been spanked twice in 5 years with a garage bill for having it replaced i wanted something N/A that was built reasonabily well, reliable and practical. (No not a damn Clio Sport!!)
The CTR for me was the only real choice.
To sum up...
As an every day car to and from work its annoying, but for a weekend blast, its fantastic.

Ok my time to contribute starting with my previous car history:
Various 2.0L Converted Corsa's
Renaultsport Clio 172
Renaultsport Megane 225 Trophy
Honda Civic EP3 Type R + caterham R400 race car presently owned
I recently sold the megane and bought the Honda.
The megane was a cross between a golf and a hot hatch in my eyes. It was surprisingly built very well and the interior wore well as i did 20k miles a year. However 24mpg average wasnt soo fun and the fact it chew through £160 tyres for fun wasnt ideal. It handled very well however lacked the on the edge fun the clio gave me and was more designed for long cruising drives than a thrash around some A roads. Servicing was vastly expensive and it wasnt a cheap car to run and own!
The type R interior isnt as great as the megane and filled with the luxuries of cruise control, auto lights and wipers, dimming mirrors, climate control, and all sorts of other niceties however its practical functional and the seats hold you better.
The ride is very similiar on all road surfaces with a little more road noise, and the engine is easier to drive when pootling around town etc. So far i have done 150 miles and still got over half a tank of fuel left which is surprising!
The VTEC is great fun, and owned a dax rush with a s2000 engine i love the engines and find them a hoot to drive when you want the buzz but they also can be extremely easy to drive at lower rpm in traffic.
The brakes and gearbox are amazing and i cannot fault them. The handling is very accurate with less understeer than the megane and the rear can feel excitingly twitchy with a lift off on entry.
Overall I am missing some comforts of the Megane and its auto everything however the thrills and fun factor of the Type R are more appealing. When driving the Type R i feel closer to the sensation of the Caterham so its really a half way between something like a refined golf/audi and a track inspired car.
It certainly gets my vote!!
