Otolith is normally on the spot, but he's forgot about gearing. The CTR has shorter gearing e.g. 6th is 3.238344 versus 3.1 for the ST170 so it will have more torque at wheels for the same rpm. Hence the CTR will hit 60 in 6.4s (versus 7.9s for the ST170).
Oh, indeed - and in a full bore through-the-gears charge, first gear apart, the CTR will be using almost entirely the bit where it murders the Focus. It's interesting to note, though, that the Focus's engine never got the criticism about low rev torque that the Honda gets, despite the output being essentially the same but without the top end.

Awesome, top gear lap times for the win, so accurate!
laugh

I love top gear lap times. Wet vs 25c dry vs -1c and snow, all on the same board. Clarkson uses his highly scientific "yeah, add 2 seconds for a wet lap" theory..... laugh

Does anybody know the final drive ratios for ST170 and EP3? I'd imagine that the EP3 FD would be more aggressive (higher number) than the ST170. thumbup

Indeed. Reading this months evo they also talk about hot clio's being torqey, which is nonsense.

A car only has low torque if it's a Honda.

Your source on this bit of information? The Civic does not share the gearbox with anything
Torque on the St170 is very similar to the Type r but available lower in the rev range also i did not say a St170 would beat the type r at any point but i did say the performance is in the same class. Its torque that defines the performance of a car NOT bhp!

The gearbox is a getrag unit with differant ratios but shared with the cooper s & st170

The performance is not in the same class. 0-100 in the ST170 takes 4 seconds longer.

FFS

Power = Torque x 2 pi x rpm

You are not taking RPM into account. The Civic revs to 8250rpm as standard. The Focus has 1050rpm less to play with ergo less power.

I don't know what you are talking about here, but the Civic has a Honda gearbox

Great post clap

ETA: Slightly off topic but the CTR will rev to 8600 (safely) with Hondata ECU too!!

A lot of the bad things said about the type r is directly related to the type of owners they attract rolleyes
