After the very same colour S2000 myself, not many about in Monte Carlo Blue though.Killer2005 said:
If someone were to be contemplating an S2000 as a next car, would there be anything to look out for?
Also what would servicing costs/intervals be like?
Ta
Costs for everything I've done with mine in the last four years are on my profile (slightly misleading as I've treated mine to a six monthly oil change too)... Servicing every 9,000 miles or each year is the only thing to look for - when I was buying mine it was hard to find a low mileage one with a yearly service. Also what would servicing costs/intervals be like?

Push the budget a bit and get 1 year later car.Face lift cars got a lot of changes that made them better. (see s2ki FAQ)
I'd look at this if you can live with the full red interior

They also get coloured indicators though, which I really didn't like when I bought mine... I've warmed to them in the intervening years, but there's not a great deal of point swapping an S2000 for another one!Face lift cars got a lot of changes that made them better. (see s2ki FAQ)
The only real problem mine has faced me with is what to replace it with when the time comes...

..not usually a fan of burgundy cars but i do like honda's colour
ETA the above image.. of same s2k.. but in black!

2006, 32k miles on the clock, last serviced about 4 months and 20 miles ago!
new roof <1 yr ago, and new sticky dunlops all round, no dings etc, and in great condition (always garaged).
there's quite a range on autotrader, with similar age/mile cars ranging from 9500 upto almost 12000, which is quite a range..
not sure if i should be looking at the top end as obviously its private (not dealership).. but then the flip side is its quite a rare colour (as far as i know.. never seen another, even for sale), ontop of the recent bits (roof wasnt exactly cheap from honda)
ive not bothered trying to sell it properly yet - mainly as i was looking forward to the sun arriving and enjoying it before it gets replaced. however a nice quick sale is always welcome, i just dont want to sell it off too cheap.. new car doesnt arrive for 4 months so i have plenty time to enjoy the car and sell, but a hassle-free quick sale cant be sniffed at, I just dont want to accept sometihing then find when the sun arrives and its colour shines through find i could have got alot more money for just waiting!
I'd personally chuck it up in the classifieds for top money and see how it goes for a couple weeks.
Mikey - lovely. I'm hoping for a v8v next time round!!

Thanks for the advice chaps, I've got an insurance quote through which was far better than previously thought, but still £700.00 more than what I'm paying for my 147.
It would be worth it but my sensible side is in the way

DanL,
how does the S2K compare to the VX you owned (checked your profile)?
I have the VX as a toy, my missus has an MR2, but occasionally (like npow) mkaes noises about going down to one sports car which will get more use than the VX. The only car I would even consider for this options is an S2K.
But then, I look at the VX and just love it and never want to get rid of it?
It's a nice dilemma to have, but a dilemma no less. Any thoughts?

Boring! Where did you get the quotes? Try admiral and elephant if you haven't.
£2k at Admiral, £1800 through Adrian Flux. Will have to have a look at Elephant.I wish I could make my mind up
Not cheap is it. This is where I'm glad I live In the country! 24yr old paying £700! I don't think I could pay £2k for insurance.

But powertrain in the S2000 is sublime, reliability/dealers are a lot better (this was 6 years ago, with 18mth old cars, so may be less relevant now), and practicality/habitability of the S2000 is a lot better - we wanted a car we'd both drive and we could go away together in...VX just didn't 'feel' like that sort of car.
...but I think JF is probably right - you'd miss the inherent poise/feedback of the VX if you went the other way.

I'd rather not but if it means having a car I want then I don't really care. Not cheap is it. This is where I'm glad I live In the country! 24yr old paying £700! I don't think I could pay £2k for insurance.
It's not what's stopping me buying one, it's more whether I should get a s2000/z4 or be sensible and save for a house (currently renting).

I'd say get a house, then save for the S. But I am rather sensible!

Hey Ash - no problem, I'll run through the comparison so far as I can!how does the S2K compare to the VX you owned (checked your profile)?

The Honda's much more comfortable, and has never let me down (unlike the VX!) - I quite like having a/c in the summer for those stuck-in-traffic moments, and I'm older than I was when I had the VX so I like the extra comfort. So, a summary...
Speed - much the same (I had the NA VX220), but delivered in a different manner. The VX felt like it had more urge, but in reality there's not a great deal in it.
Brakes - the Honda's got much better pedal feel than the VX, and the ABS is less keen to kick in too. I'm sure the VX would pull itself up in a shorter distance due to weight, but the Honda's brakes inspire more confidence.
Steering - the VX wins this hands down. Loads more feel (the Honda is pretty numb through the wheel).
Gearbox - the Honda has this one. Reviews do keep banging on about the gear shift, but there's a reason for it. It's slick and precise, quite the contrast from my memories of the VX's box!
"Feel" - once again, the VX is unsurprisingly king here. Lots more feel through the seat, wheel and everything else.
The drive - the VX is ultimately more fun and satisfying to drive. However, the Honda allows you to take more liberties. I'd never dream of trying to get the back out on the VX, but the Honda makes this pretty easy (LSD helps here along with more power).
Overall I'm happy with my choice - I'm older than I was when I had the VX, and now I like a stereo I can hear, heating/cooling that works, and the car not sounding as though something's about to fall off when you hit a pot hole. Do I miss the VX? Yes, and I'm glad I had one. I couldn't have another though - these days I drive to the station in a suit and have weekends away, and the Honda does both of these things better for me than the VX did.
