Fitting good quality tyres and filling them with Nitrogen is pretty much the first thing I did when I bought both of my s's.
I went for 78% nitrogen in mine winkbiggrin
Apparently that's quite a common choice...

Actually, S2000s are rubbish at acceleration because you can't fold the rear seats down. Or indeed, have any. Apparently.

You can take the roof off though, that gives you warp speed.

There are not many around in this colour... it was I think an optional extra. Did look lovely.

The S2000 has gone... and now I have a V8 wink
How do you find the S5? I'm pondering one myself...
The S5 is nothing like the S2000. Thats a point I realised before purchasing the S5 and realise it even more after.

The best way to sum up the S5 is it is a refined crusing machine. It has power and grip which I love however it is not the most thrilling machine. I got to the stage with the S2000 where I did not like the ride and lack of comfort. I want more power in the S5, I feel the 354bhp is not enough.. maybe it is just me. I need something more powerful. Something with 500bhp like a XKR or something smaller and lighter like a 911S.

I do like the Audi, it serves a lot of purposes however I still want a more eager car. The issue is that the more eager it is the less refined it is too. I think the XKR maybe a good solution in 5 years time. I will have to wait and see. By then my kids will be 4 and 7! So space maybe an important factor so the X5 is defo an option!

You can tell I love my cars.. I am planning 5 years ahead. I started looking already! lol.

Thanks for the info - I think I'm now about at the same point you were. I still like the Honda, but I'm older than I was and something a little more refined would be good - a comfy cruiser for long weekends away and so on.

I'm thinking of either the S5 or Jag XK (not the R, sadly - a touch too expensive to buy and run!), but I've yet to drive either.

I'll pull my finger out and look at them seriously at some point over the summer!

Well I live in Enfield... anytime you want to pop round for a chat let me and a tour of the S5 let me know.

I do love the XK.. it is not the best for a family with a little one in a child seat.

It does look like you and I are at the same stage with cars.. nice to see a fellow S2000 owner making a similar decision. Well best of luck with your move. I am sure both will be fine. I suspect the S5 will be better than a XK for fun and most things to be honest. You are prob right about the XKR and running costs...

I took the family out over the weekend.. just around where I live and it was such a comfortable drive. It was a pleasure to be in. I really enjoyed it. Also I took my friend out Friday night as he wanted a spin (a different type of drive to the one with the family)... he loved the car. Thought there was plenty of power and the interior pleased him... His brother had an A8 4.2 so he is use to the luxury side of Audi. He also commented on the B&O sound and thought it was amazing. I previously also owned a TT with Bose sound and I remember comparing it to the sound of a Harmon K system in a M3 and all of us thinking the Bose was better. My friend who is into his sound thought the B&O were simply stunning and possibly better than the Bose.

Thanks for the offer, and the other information. I was a little worried that the S5 would be less fun than the S2000, so it's good to hear that it's an entertaining drive!

I need to have a proper look at one at a dealership I think!

Chaps

How long should a timing belt last for? Service manual on mine shows it having been done at 45k, but I've just had it serviced at 72k and the local Honda dealer is suggesting it should be done ASAP as it sounds a bit rattley.

I will concede there is a bit of said rattle, and whilst I do have the money to get it done, I'm still thinking it should run without incident for another 10k. So leave it for now, or is it really not worth the risk?

Doesn't have a belt, it's chain driven and should last lifetime of car.. May need a replacement tensioner though. Easy/cheap.

Yeah I got that quote from a main dealer (Gatwick Honda). Turned out to be a TCT, much cheaper.

Given the poor repuatation most dealers have with people who run S2000s .... having a full Honda Dealer service history isn't necessarily a future selling point. I dare say it will cost you more in labour than you'll ever make back on resale value if you sell the car.

Independent specialist all the way for me, the chap I use is doing all my lower arm bushes and castor bushes for a shade over £200 because firstly he actually knows what he's doing and two, he's not a rip off merchant.

Paying £90 + VAT per hour at a main dealer for below average quality work is a mugs game.

You see, what you need is to know the guy who works at the local Honda dealer and has his own fleet of Hondas including an S2k and a NSX and let him do the work privately.

Same parts, same guy doing the work but I pay less than at the main dealer and he gets paid more for the iob than they pay him so everybody wins! wink

I was thinking of getting my TCT done for piece of mind, one dealer said they'd do it for £400, another said they would only change it with the chain and that would be £1350 so I treked up to DSAutomotive in Aylesbury where Dave said he'd do it for the cost of the part, min charge labour & VAT or I could include it in the 54k service next month when my tappets are adjusted. I'll definately get him to do the TCT but can't decide to stay with a main dealer for the 54k so I keep my fHsh history in the service book or get DSA to do that too.
If you email hendy performance (hendy-performance.com) you'll find they're incredibly competitive when it comes to replacement parts (form a UK supplier).

A TCT is, iirc a couple of hundred quid. Fitting it, can be done, I would say, in 5-6 minutes if you've ever done it before - I'd happily swap it and do a video for you tube with a timer. Very simply as long as you pay good attention.

Replacing the timing chain on the other hand, requires a fair quantity of work.

Evening all. I've been looking at all sorts of cars and maybe, just maybe the S2000 is the one. Very, very confused by the road tax though. I have been told by someone that for cars 2004 onwards it's £270, but pre 2004 it's £460.

Can someone possibly outline what the actual price is? Cheers.

2002 onwards it's £460 I believe

Hopefully a more seasoned owner will be along shortly to confirm
