I've done plenty of comfortable miles in a Boxster, anyone know if the fit is about the same?
No, from memory the S2000's seats are a bit more narrow, but not miles apart. S2000 more noisy on motorway, but steering wheel far smaller! Depends which Boxster you mean.Hi all - joining the thread here! Co side ring buying one of these next at around £5k - not a fortune but would be the most I've spent on a car. I'm a good mechanic, and technically savvy, so buying at the lower end of the market is not too risky to scare me, but I still have questions.
- Rust. I'm sick of good cars with the constant threat of rust hanging over them. What are these like? You dont read about it much, which bodes well.
- Miles. I'm not scared of miles at all, I always buy high mileage cars, that's the beauty of Japanese engineering! But am I likely to run I to any massive bills as the miles pile on. I might do 30k in the car, could well be taking it well over 100k. From what I gather there's no really BIG scary bills? Certain nothing to scare me.
Unless anyone can convince me otherwise, buying a cheap one shouldn't pose any major problems, especially for someone technically savvy, I can weild a spanner etc. Right?
(All stems from an insurance quote being more favourable than the rumours suggest, and I want a step up from MX5/MR-2 performance)

I've heard suggestions that the engines don't wear big-miles well, otherwise it's a Honda - very little to worry about if serviced properly.
Best bet would be to sign-up to s2ki.co.uk and spend an evening searching there - they can be an odd bunch at times but there's a wealth of knowledge/experience there.

Spot of advice. My s2000 is a 56 plate and done 40,000 miles. Should it be approaching a "major" service soon, and what are the big items that need doing?
It lists everything in the manual. You may be close to the 51k biggy. Think its the usual bits plus, Brake Fluid & Valve clearances.

In terms of rust they can rust on the rear arches. Dirt and moisture gets trapped under the protective rubber strip. As suggested get over to s2ki.com, the uk community section as a FAQ - Rust. After a S2000 myself
currently have an Impreza but am reluctant to sell first in case im without for ages
Decent s2000s dont hang around tho so doesnt look like I will be getting one soon
another S2000 Forum is better laid out but lost content after a recent format change!

Just put 4 new RE050s on mine. Noticed when I bought it that the rear offside, as well as being worn, was an RE050A, while the rest were 50s. So Wheels in Motion in Chesham have just fitted new set all round, plus Geo'd it. Wow. What a difference to the ride and handling four lovely fresh tyres and a tweak on the toe and caster makes. Feels like a whole new car. Love it.
Just taken the plunge... Berlina Black, 88,000 miles
What can I say? The engine & gearbox are so addictive! Amazing car. Can't wait to take it round Europe. I think one of my tyres has a slow puncture however - I've had T1Rs on my Mazda which were excellent and Goodyear Eagles, what does everyone suggest?
