£600 service...
Nice colour!

Main dealers are normally good, but I paid £415, albeit couple of years back for the 54k service (even though it was before time). I'd look at the breakdown and decide which bits you need, especially if some bits have been done before that arent required, ie pollen filter/brake fluid/gearbox/diff fluid. The plugs and oil made up the biggest portion after the labour (valve adjustment etc).

The main dealer servicing costs vary a bit between them. £600 seems too high. Go for £500 including geometry check

eta - this is the service schedule check list - pretty much all on here: http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/637927-service-sch...

Just done the 54k service myself.

Cost £410 from a Honda specialist, using genuine parts. Honda wants £630, that was once I had to tell them once the 54k service involved. I went down the specialist route, glad I did, the pollen filter was black, so much for the full Honda service history, they'd obviously never changed it.

Swear the big service at my local Honda was 490ish, but I know the main service guy there so got him to do it a lot cheaper :P

600 is way too much...

Maidenhead Honda wanted £460 for a normal service, so I'm not surprised by £630 for a major one. Always take mine to TGM though.

That's crazy money.

Bury St Edmunds Honda (John Banks) does a standard service on mine for near half the cost.

Can anyone see any reason why this car won't sell?

http://usedcars.honda.co.uk/S2000/2.0-Roadster//25...

I have been following a few cars over the past 4 weeks that I would consider purchasing, and many of them have sold quite quickly, but not the above. I googled the registation number and found that it has been for sale within Johnsons since October 2012 (I think). Link below.

I think it is possibly £500-£1000 overpriced going on others that have sold at other Honda dealers, but I can't see why it's been hanging around for 5 months. Hopefully I am test driving it this Friday, my first drive in an S2000 - very excited! At the moment the weather looks good too.

I would say that is really an £8500 car, comparing the pricing to mine when I bought it last year (2006 model with 47k on the clock also) - though I suppose there is a dealer premium.

Would suspect that the weather and winter being the main reason for a convertible sitting on a forecourt for a while - doesn't look anything suspect apart from the price!

Oh, and servicing - I rang around and Gatwick Honda are doing the major service and geo for £470, so definitely worth shopping around.

Thanks. I don't think weather is putting people off, around 6-7 that I was looking at in the £7500-£10000 range have sold from Honda's stock, PH and Autotrader in two weeks. I do think it's a £9k car though. One sold the other day from another dealership - 54 plate, 25000 miles, same exterior colour and (imo) better looking all black interior for £8995. This one is 12 months newer but with almost twice the miles, so to me it doesn't seem worth the £9995. Are there any spec changes between 04 and 05 that could command this price?

Agree with that - seen a few main-dealer cars where the condition and lack of ANY work required to the car makes it worth the extra. Tends to be stuff I ask about now before viewing, esp. if the car's a fair trek away...

I've seen this car about for a while too - compared to others; it is over priced. Yes, dealer cars command a premium, but this is still slightly overpriced. Also, the extremely red interior would make it less appealing to the majority of buyers I would imagination, hence it's still around.

I'd have loved an S2000 with red interior, I just couldn't find one for right sort of price/mileage/ condition that I wanted to pay

My father in laws has red leather seats and door card inserts but I think it has a green carpeting colour? Goes quite well but I prefer ALL red.

I can confirm it doesn't. I went to see it today, I booked a test drive. I arrive and the people I arranged to see are not there - no test drive. Not at all impressed. I got there at 5, it shuts at 6 and I was asked to come back another time. I am passing again on Tuesday, so I'm going to drop back in.

The car is not worth £10k, simple as that. The roof is very worn in places, the front bumper has scrapes upwards from the very bottom about 1-2 inches long, in an area a bit wider than the number plate and there are 3-4 other deep scratches elsewhere. The wheels are in good condition though.

Luckily I coincided my visit with a long journey I was making this afternoon, so the 50 miles I travelled I would have done anyway.

My 2p would be to not bother going back. There are plenty of S2000's around, and if a main dealer hasn't bothered to prep it properly then you're probably NOT going to get good after-sales service from them, so it won't be worth the premium you'll pay.

Save your time, keep looking...

Call and ask if all the faults will be remedied and if the price includes the 54k biggie and if required, new suspension bushes.

Cheaper pickings appear to be slim, there's 5 cheaper 06-07 cars but only two are comparable with the Honda dealer's car imo:

£9150
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/h...

£9295
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/h...

It's worth a phonecall to Honda imo, it could work out the cheapest option...
I'm only really after 05 or 55 cars because of the cheaper tax, and my budget.

Does the 54k service also have a time when it should be done? For example 54k miles OR 5 years?

Pickings are slim at the moment, but cars at this price do come up at time to time at Honda dealers.

It's hard to say without photos, but this car is a GT, is newer and has fewer miles for only £500 more.

Yes. Servicing (for a "proper" FSH) is yearly or mileage based, whichever happens first. As the service interval is every 9k miles years and mileage genrally seem to coincide... My old one only did 6k a year and the former owner and I both serviced it every year. Mine was a 2002, but I'd be surprised if anything has changed with later models.

When I first looked, I found lots with very low mileage that had been serviced every couple of years on the miles done rather than time... Turned me off them, but it depends how picky you are! smile

I test drove a 2009 S2000 this morning, what a machine! I was expecting the engine to be the most amazing part, (and it was amazing), but I was most impressed by the gear change (feeling, short throw and stick position) and the steering feel. It just felt so good to drive because the steering is so direct, the wheel is a great size and the weight is spot on. I got back into my 172 and it actually felt a bit light, whereas I always though it was quite heavy compared to other cars I've had a go in.

The engine is a riot, but I was surprised just how much it needs to be thrashed. I knew this was the case going into it, but I did expect it to rocket off slightly sooner. Nevertheless, it zips around like I thought it would - brilliant.

I think I want one, I just have to find the right car which will be a late 53 to early 06 (face lifted but still £270 PA tax), and bite the bullet on the £885 insurance quote (cry)

You won't regret it! I bought a '55 reg a couple years back. I was 22 so the insurance was steep like your quote - but it does get better!!

When driving other cars the things I miss the most are the gearbox and the throttle response. Plus the engine feels pretty naughty when approaching 9k in 3rd n 4th!!

You won't regret it - enjoy your search!

The sad thing about that insurance quote is it has my mum and my girlfriend on it as named drivers. I'm 24, 6.5 years with a full licence and I have 3 years NCB; yet its still st loads to insure! With me as the only driver it's somewhere around £1300.

9k in 3rd was quite a rush, I think it was 85-90? That was quite naughty. I asked the dealer if it was okay before I did it wink
