Killer2005 said: If someone were to be contemplating an S2000 as a next car, would there be anything to look out for? Also what would servicing costs/intervals be like? Ta Costs for everything I've done with mine in the last four years are on my profile (slightly misleading as I've treated mine to a six monthly oil change too)... Servicing every 9,000 miles or each year is the only thing to look for - when I was buying mine it was hard to find a low mileage one with a yearly service.

Killer2005 said: I short listed that car when I bought mine in May/June, it looked very nice in the original advert. Services I think are £139 for a 9k, £179 for a 18k (just had this done in January) I can't remember what the 27k service is but I was quoted £340 for the 54k service by Honda Reading while paying for the 18k service. Insurance is stupid money, tax is 160 for six months or £240 for a year and I'm averaging 31mpg over a tank. The only things that stand out from the buying guide is if the roof is ok and does it sound like a spokey dokey at idle.

(see s2ki FAQ) They also get coloured indicators though, which I really didn't like when I bought mine... I've warmed to them in the intervening years, but there's not a great deal of point swapping an S2000 for another one! The only real problem mine has faced me with is what to replace it with when the time comes...

It's a nice motor but I don't think burgundy is going to have much it's premium. White cars have a fairly large premium but that's "in" this week. I'd personally chuck it up in the classifieds for top money and see how it goes for a couple weeks. Mikey - lovely. I'm hoping for a v8v next time round!!

Thanks for the advice chaps, I've got an insurance quote through which was far better than previously thought, but still £700.00 more than what I'm paying for my 147. It would be worth it but my sensible side is in the way

DanL, how does the S2K compare to the VX you owned (checked your profile)?
I have the VX as a toy, my missus has an MR2, but occasionally (like npow) mkaes noises about going down to one sports car which will get more use than the VX. The only car I would even consider for this options is an S2K.
But then, I look at the VX and just love it and never want to get rid of it?
It's a nice dilemma to have, but a dilemma no less. Any thoughts?

I wish I could make my mind up Elephant will be about the same as admiral, they are owned by the same group. Not cheap is it. This is where I'm glad I live In the country! 24yr old paying £700! I don't think I could pay £2k for insurance.

It's a nice dilemma to have, but a dilemma no less. Any thoughts? I've just gone from an S2000 to VX220 and wouldn't go the other way around... We test-drove the VX before getting the S2000. VX is definitely a better steer, better chassis and more striking car. But powertrain in the S2000 is sublime, reliability/dealers are a lot better (this was 6 years ago, with 18mth old cars, so may be less relevant now), and practicality/habitability of the S2000 is a lot better - we wanted a car we'd both drive and we could go away together in...VX just didn't 'feel' like that sort of car. ...but I think JF is probably right - you'd miss the inherent poise/feedback of the VX if you went the other way.

I'd rather not but if it means having a car I want then I don't really care. It's not what's stopping me buying one, it's more whether I should get a s2000/z4 or be sensible and save for a house (currently renting).
