As said from a tourist point of view, food and drink are crazy, I remember my first visit in circa 1998 or so when the ex rate was 2.4 ish, a beer in a normal english type bar (read grubby little place at back of the Hilton)was expensive then, now its just silly.
Cant remember exact numbers but we had dinner in doors for new year the last 2 years running, fillet steak from local supermarket probably some of if not the best I have ever tasted but price wise remember thinking would have been cheaper or similar money to go out.
Everywhere you go a main course seems to be 39 swissy minimum (for the likes of pasta).

It has been great living here as just a couple, but now the twins have arrived and the need for baby assistance it is just not cost effective. I've been quoted 6k chf for a full time nanny, and for even basic home help is close to 3K chf per month - crazy money! Plus living in a smallish 2 bedroom flat is no fun, I want a house and a garden again.

So I think if you are on a good chf wage being single, or in a relationship but without kids it is a fantastic life (we definately enjoyed our 5 years here). However if you have kids you need to be on the upper level of wages or at least have a contract that the hiring company pays for child care, schooling etc.

Tell you what for 4k swissy I will come and look after the little angels for you :-)

On a serious note, you should be able to get someone from the UK out there for a lot less than that, it wasnt that long ago a UK nanny was £75 live in and £100 live out ..... or maybe 1990 was a long while ago I forget now :-)

Ah, I remember coming here as a child and the exchange rate was 4.

I moved all my UK pensions over at 2.4 smile
