I'm travelling from Stuttgart to Interlaken in June. Will I need to buy a motorway travel pass in advance ?

You can get one at the border, they will stop you as you go in and you buy one there or have a look on ebay there are usually some there that people have not stuck to their screen.

It costs CHF 40.- and is valid from December 1 of each year to January 31 the following year. Good value if you use the autoroutes on a regular basis when compared to toll prices levied in surrounding countries (France, Italy, etc.)

Just bumping this one back up.

Can I pay for tolls and my motorway pass with my credit of debit card?

Cheers.

If you cross the border on a road which is not a motorway, stop in a petrol station and you can find the "vignette" and pay the CHF 40.- with your card. On a motorway frontier crossing, I'm not 100% sure you can, but probably it is possible.

Be warned however that the cost of CHF 40.- is nothing compared to being caught without one on the motorway (100.- fine + 40.- "vignette") and the fine is going to be doubled soon. The Swiss parliament has approved the proposition.

NO!! Cash only at the border! and don't pay in another currency as they rape you on the exchange (the difference goes into their social fund, I know a guy who works on the Basel autobahn grenze)!

when I got to the boarder I paid in euros and they gave me change in swiss francs - so handy...
