Hi,

I've read through the thread and also had a look the law here http://www.tierimrecht.org/de/tiersc...ht/zuerich.... but am not 100% sure of the implications of the new laws to be enacted in Zurich as of Jan 2010. Is anyone able to clarify please?

I'm currently in the UK working for Credit Suisse and will find out in the next couple of weeks, whether I will be offered a job in ZH - starting in July/August. As well as a Dalmatian we also have a Staffie. I know that they are currently a controlled breed and he would have to be muzzled and kept on a leash when out in public in ZH and also that the breed will be banned at the beginning of next year.

However it seems that if he were registered in ZH prior to the end of the year, we could apply for an exemption. Is this correct and if so what would we need to do to gain the exemption? If it helps he was neutered as a puppy for health reasons, so there is no chance of any rogue breeding!

We have a german Sheppard which also falls under the new rules I think, the way I understand it is if you already have the dog your fine, it must be muzzled etc and it may have to take and pass an obedience test.

But then I'm not holding me breath about it, there has been talk about this sort of thing for the 4 years we have been here and nothings happened so far.

eta I'm sure Mrs Smilerbaker will be along soon to correct me smile

Hi, Mrs Smilerbaker here. As far as I can work it out, if you have had the dog registered here before the start of next year, you are able to keep them here, but I believe you have to take a test to show they are not a danger to people or other animals to get a permit for them.

As Smilerbaker said, we have a german shepherd and so I am going to have to find out what it entails to get hold of these permits and whether we will need one for our dog. There are a few threads here http://www.englishforum.ch/pet-corner/ in relation to this new law, but I've tried reading through them and got completely confused.

I will try to find out what is needed at some point and will post up here when i have.

Thanks Mr & Mrs Smilerbaker

I thought we should be ok if we get the permit before the end of the year.
I will keep on looking to see if I can find out what we need to do to pass the test. We like 'jumping' I'm hoping that doesn't class as bad behaviour, i think it might, but we will be working on that one!

I started looking at english forum, but it wasn't always talking about the new law in Zurich, but I will get back to going through it all.

Do you need to live in Zurich or could you live in another kanton? We have to live in Zug for tax reasons, but it works well for us as there are no onerous laws regarding dogs - you're just expected to be able to control them.

To be honest we do not have to live in Zurich, but after hellish commutes in London, we want to be as close as possible to work.

Zug would be a good plan B, distance wise, but we have never been there so before we decide, we need to do some exploring!
