Awesome laps smile

Here is an old comparison of my in GT4 vs 6GT3. Sadly the 6GT3 lap was interrupted by traffic at end of hanger straight and again over the start finish line. For hanger straight I did some video trickery to realign the videos.

The GT4 was running at 2.26 and 996 GT3 looks very similar (iirc vbox ideal lap was 2.26/2.25)

Really? I would be quite surprised, or do you mean LaSource's M3 vs. a std GT3?
Sorry, was not clear enough - Mr T's M3 - a standard M3 is good, but it is a cruiser compared to a standard GT3...

....looking at the videos from last trip, managed to sneak into a 2:23 in the XBow biggrin

Can see room for further improvement.

2.17 in a 675 LT this week.
Can we see the video?
That's mega quick.
Sure, I will try and get it downloaded this weekend.
Would like to see this.

We were discussing what kind of pace is possible in the faster cars like 991 RS and 675 LT but (naturally) quite rare to see one being pushed to its limits or any video or vbox trace from the car.

Here's a 2.08 ... Lost a little time towards the end.

This is a better lap, but it's on the International during a race rather than a GP trackday

Loved the video, having only experienced tin tops, it's amazing. Not the speed, but the lack of speed reduction on entry to any corner. I am just wondering how big the impact would be if I tried corner entry speeds like that in my car. You'd hear the bang in Wiltshire. Respect to driver and Radical.

Nowhere near, under 1:35 I recall for qualifying this year. Still an epic laptime though.

I did 2:21 with traffic in an E92 M3.

Car has suspension, brakes and slicks.

Bypassing Vale chicane though, according to the videos? Must save 1.5 - 2 seconds?

I was at Silverstone yesterday and they were using the 'historic' GP layout which basically uses a much faster sweeping curve through Vale instead of the 90 degree left (believe the tarmac was being resurfaced at traditional Vale).

It may be a small change buy boy does it change the complexion of the whole Vale to Club complex - yes it becomes another complex like maggots/becketts/chappel. So you can take the entry fast, compromise a little in the middle, and then try to exit club as best as possible. It makes Silverstone feel much more like a great mix of technical, high speed, low speed, etc. Just missing more elevation changes smile

It also wreaks havoc with your 'muscle memory' in the beginning as you are used to going straight on to the 90 degree left and more than once I almost ran on onto the tyre 'fence' at Vale.
The entry into the historic vale is also a little blind as the circuit dips just as you approach it.

Overall it definitely quickens the circuit. I guess somewhere between 2-4 seconds. I ran a 2:24 in a 996 RS on old tyres...which I estimate would be at best 2:26 on the tranditional circuit.

Vale is my least favourite corner at Silverstone. It feels like a Micky Mouse chicane on an otherwise flowing circuit. I would love to try the historic layout.

Sign up for the Birkett next year then - that's always run on the Historic GP.

I couldn't get on with the Vale bypass bit, I really struggled to find any kind of flow around there.

I hope it's back to the normal layout as well as dry and warm enough to have another go in January.

Cant be that historic as the Bridge segment isn't there anymore!

I think the 'historic' tag is not about the circuit (the layout is not all that historic) but more about the type of cars that use them. The layout is I believe mainly used for historic car racing where the abrupt 90 deg stop and turn is perhaps a bit too harsh on the cars...

Massively improves the track. Hateful corner that one, probably one of the least enjoyable corners in the country. The historic cut creates a really nice challenge as well, once you get the hang of it its really awesome fun. Personally I think all track days should use that cut and just leave the sharp left to the F1 boys.

Silverstone could be further improved with a similar cut around the loop another useless corner.
