Well first proper day/time at Silverstone today(I had been there a couple of weeks ago when it was pissing it down so not very productive) Brought my 993 RS. Car performed flawlessly thankfully.Front tyres were shagged though as I had used the same set for 4 previous other trackdays. Also had ballast with my 62kg son in tow! All in all was hovering on an average of 2:38 however managed a 2:37 and a 2:36 in the end. Not bad I guess for my first Silverstone, in an absolutely bog standard stock RS over 22 years old! Still some room for improvement of course.Got some great video as well. Will upload it soon..Great day all in all!

That Abbey section is one of the few areas at Silverstone I have well nailed, the key is not to go to crazy with carrying so much speed in that you end up compromising the following left hander. For this reason I keep it a tiny bit under the limit on the right hander so I can be hard on the throttle all the way through the following left. It is blooming exciting like that and was giving me 103 to 105 apex at 1.3g in the 944 on road legal tyres (DZ03g). Its the low speed stuff at Silverstone I can't stand, never been happy enough and tidy enough with them, they also always give the feeling that the car is crawling along and loosing a ton of time.

Also keep an eye out for slight unsettling bumps on that right hander. Unless they have resurfaced it there was a slight bump on the way in if you tried to take it too tight that kicked the car out.
Abbey is an awesome turn when you get it right. Can just manage Abbey flat using all the track.

Little bit scary when your tyres are knackered though..

Incidentally, Jonny drove the GT4 Race car there a few weeks ago and it was actually slower than the road car, also two up and on old tyres....

Well, well, another visit to Silverstone in the 996 GT3. Looking at the video logger afterwards, got down to 2.25 and would in fact have had a 2.24 on the third lap had I not messed up the entry into Village. Oh well, another time then. Car was flying!

...and I know now how to replicate for the extra time. I'm now more confident in Copse, picking up pace now into maggots, later braking into stowe, and a tighter line into Brooklands.

Nice and tidy, apart from the entry into Vale smile I think you have more time yet to find around Abbey btw.

Just checked my GoPro and track addict times, 2:43 from a 2001 Audi TT track car, first time out at Silverstone, respectable or slow with a passenger onboard?

Fair point, old nankang ns2-rs, 1400kg with drivers and fluids, 268bhp and 270lbs ft torque, dry track, stripped with ds3000 brake pads

Yeah, that was me, I did have fun in the end, but I had a torrid time trying to get the car sorted, I was playing with tyre pressures pretty much all day and assessing things, I came to the conclusion that I dont have enough camber at the front and my suspension, although coilovers is adjustable height-wise, it was on the car as a street setup when I bought it, its a work-in-progress car.

I've since ordered Silver Project adjustable top mounts, Meister R coilers, higher spring rates, MK2 TT ball joints and altogether that should put me on course for 4.5 deg camber, 9 deg castor and 2 deg of toe at the front (common consensus from the track TT group as being the sweet spot) then I will go back and see how she is.

What were you driving? favourite car I saw there on the day was the Alfa GTV6, lovely car

If you were in the yellow Litchfied GTR, sorry for being in the way, I saw you in the rear view at the other end of the straight and thought I would move after the corner, I didn't expect you to be on my tailpipe in seconds flashing me out of the way

First visit too the new GP layout in July last year I just managed to squeak a 2.28 on a Yamaha YZF R1-M road bike.

My instructors best was a 2.10 all recorded via the bikes data logging systems.

I found the new layout hard work compared to the previous time I had been to silverstone back in 2008, I remembered turning left and going under "Bridge".

The temperature was mid 30's which was draining being dressed in full leathers sitting astride a hot angry motorbike.

Comparable with my 2:41 in my Clio 182. Standard bar 888s and coilovers.

Lol... much lighter car, 888s are another step up from ns2s.... and driver who wasnt concerned with damaging £1000 clio.

I was at Silverstone again on Sunday in my "new" Elise (K20 SC) on R888Rs.

Track temps were very low and the track was very busy, but managed a 2:23. Frustratingly that was my first flying lap of the session and the tyres were still a little cold:

Impressive particularly as you probably lost an entire second at least in Brooklands/Luffield, courtesy of traffic.

It's so nice to see an Elise in its natural habitat, although the short gearing probably also "costs" you a little time at Silverstone compared to tighter tracks.
