2:23.0 on some very old Cup2’s yesterday in my 981 GT4. New tyres and a properly clear lap and sub 2:20’s possible for sure.

https://youtu.be/5oQt4mPWNxU

Edited as I realise I actually miss timed it and it was a high 22/low 23.

2:12.00 in the JCR fettled 991.2 GT3 RS Weissach yesterday around Silverstone GP

2:10.8 possible on used tyres on this run without traffic but we’re back Monday for a go with new tyres. Mid to low 2:09 should be on the cards

Amazing cars still with plenty of potential left over from the factory and this one has more to go too. Ultimate pace we’re targeting once all of the development is complete is dipping into the 2:07’S
Also running the JCR 718 GT4 today but again no clear laps, 2:17.52 best on sectors but a 2:16 with a clear lap is coming, again back out on Monday so praying for a couple of clear traffic free laps in both cars

JC
I assume that is on Cup2 R tyres rather than standard Cup2s?

Also, if you don't mind me saying, are those times you are bandying about 10hz proper data recorder times like on a vbox racelogic/AIM type recorder or just phone/ICE times as there is quite a difference especially when you are talking about times at the very sharp end.

I believe it was on the Porsche track precision app which logs using the 10Hz GPS antenna on the car. Also, considering the time is several seconds faster than any other claimed time for a 3 RS, even my Mum’s finger on a stop watch would provide the required resolution of +-5 seconds to the next fastest time....;)

It's quite remarkable how pretty much every single laptime anyone has ever quoted they did always tends to be set with extremly old/worn/shot tyres..... biggrin

Good driving though thumbup

Well given the car was on Cup2R which are literally multi seconds faster than a standard Cup2 it better be several seconds faster than any other claimed 3rs time. The issue is that the in car timing recorded times (for any manufacturer not just Porsche) almost never seem to line up with dedicated data loggers when run as a control and curiously always seem to end up being faster than the vbox type units.... I'm just saying that quick as jcr undoubtedly was, a claimed time is imho anyway only dependable if produced from a dedicated data unit.

Well....I was being too cheap to buy a set of new ones until I'd tried to destroy the original ones! I guess the fact the cars barely do any mileage with many people (mine was late 2016 and had 4600 miles on it) means they almost all end up with ancient tyres

Just another data point for this forum. First proper outing at Silverstone for this car.
Its a 2:19.3(but if you see the video you'll hear that I backed off last tenths of a second so probably would have dipped into 2:18's)
2003 996.2 GT3MR M410
Stock displacement engine
ECU tune, shorter final drive, KW's and monoball suspension, and Surface Transform Carbon discs and lighter wheels and stripped interior.
Weight 1310kgs without fuel
New Pirelli Slicks

Lots of traffic that day and predicted time FWIW on datalogger was 2:17.3 and I'm quite certain this is defo doable.
In fact also think that car could dip into 2:16's as well.

Anyway as I said, just another datapoint FWIW and certainly not the last word.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ga6zQhCIj8

Btw both cars in the video are nearly identical in specs, weight and tyres.

Cracking effort, obviously. Sub 2.20 is moving.

I'd say more a race car than a track car with slicks etc. You'd not get on track with a lot of TDOs if running that level of prep as the slow guys become a liability for you at those speeds.

I was at Silverstone a couple of weeks on 9000 mile Cup2 tyres that have done 700+ laps of various circuits. They've done another 67 laps of Goodwood since and are nearly at 10k miles lol

I was happy pinging 2.30 all day smile

Couple more data points

Caterham 420R on ZZR’s - 2:19

BMW 130i on Cup 2’s, Coilovers and stock engine - 2:38

Loads of headroom in both, especially the Caterham.

I was back at Silverstone GP on Wednesday for the first time since 2019. I was hoping to work on setup through the day, after making so many changes to the chassis and aero since the last visit, but sadly the clutch failed after 10 laps. So this was the best I did, a 2min18. This was on a 2016 set of BTCC slicks, which I was finishing off as they were blistered and had a bit of canvas showing. Look forward to getting back there with some fresher rubber and working on removing some understeer from the car.

No doubt about that, but you can't claim a lap time where you go off track limits every other corner.

Every other corner is a little bit of an exaggeration. Only track limits properly abused are the exit of Copse. Everything else would generally be acceptable on FIA regulations and track limits are fairly moot when it comes to lap records anyway. Take a look at the latest Sport Auto lap around Hockenheim for an example..

If the Blancpain GT3 Pole position can be claimed by going that wide at Copse, I think I can claim it tongue out

Only saw him exit the limit once. And that's a common area to do so. The rest was just hitting apex's.

The only negative I could see was the driver changing gear mid corner / apex rather than holding the gear a fraction longer. Saying that, I've no experience of his car so I don't know if it's affected in that way (looks easy to drive as a viewer). I know my Lotus is easily unsettled if I shift mid corner.

Yeah I only saw a track limit issue exit of Copse the rest was pretty neat and tidy

You lot must be blind (or working to a different interpretation of track limits).

MSUK state that track limits are the white line or the edge of the curb, and no part of the car should exceed this limit.

I see track limits on the exit of the loop, Aintree and as you all agree, Copse.

This lap would (should) be disallowed in any British Championship qualifying session, and would(should) incur a 5 second penalty in a racing

Yeah but this isn't an MSUK event, also if it were a Touring Car/F1/WEC etc race he actually hasn't exceeded track limits enough.
