That's a great time, you must be pleased with that.
I had an awful day, car was running like a pig, very frustrating.
The RMA overtaking rules are great, seemed safe so will definitely do another one.
Cheers

Yes - I was looking for an improvement from a previous 2.32 and so a 2.30 would have done the trick....getting down to 2.28 was a bonus.

Sorry to hear about the car.

In a S2000 I managed 2.41 which I believe to be respectable for that car:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCRvOidcH3s

In a Elise 111R I got to 2.35, which again I believe to be quite decent for the car:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pulfg-g5AEA

As a comparison in a Mazda MX5 MK1 race car I did in 2011 a ~2.47… The car was by the way not the fastest thing within the field of MX5 race cars… (was a bit of a bag of nails!)

A chap off the GTR forum has a 715bhp R35 with fully modded suspension, brakes and Toyo R888 tyres - I have been in as a passenger doing a 2:28 and by himself I have "timed" him from the pit wall at 2:25.

That was last year and I understand that on a recent day he has now cut that to 2:23.

My mere 630bhp with slight brake and suspension mods and less talent driving has done a 2:36 - haven't been there this year unfortunately.

Those are fast times from the GTR.

Here is a video of the quickest lap from Monday.

I managed a 2.24 in a Lotus Exige with 230bhp running on AO48r road tires watch out for the GTR moving over on the approach to the Hanger straight then blasting away from me smile

Wow - that's good going.

But you are a racer smile
...we are mere mortals who get to a track 5-6 times a year

Will watch the video later - I suspect you probably carry more speed through every corner

Nice, well driven fast lap!
More than 10s faster than my Elise 111R frown
I have this mid term plan of having a honda powered elise with some decent suspension...
Let's see if I ever get it and what will then be my lap time! wink

Thanks! One thing that annoys me in the lotus is the understeer... Would love it to be more pointy and of course with some extra power from vtec (ideally s/c).
Let's see £££ wise what happens next year.
I was chasing that McLaren on the corners for nearly 2 laps when he decided to let me go... Good feeling! wink

What's your next trackday?

Sorry to hear about the car.
Took a 997 RS at the weekend for the first time....now down to 2.26
...plenty more left on the table but it's getting a bit scary!

2.26 is going some!! bet it felt great.
Ive had a miserable time with the MGB but hopefully it is all sorted now. On the plus side last rolling road session showed 435bhp which should make things very interesting.

Looks like I was there on the same day - had a browse for vids on YouTube afterwards and I'm fairly sure I've seen your video of this lap? Looked very tidy, as you said a bit to come though, mainly corner apex speeds I think from looking at the data overlay.

The speeds the car is reaching at the end of Hangar and Welly straight are pretty bloody impressive, about 25-30mph faster than we could manage in a Mk3 MX-5 road car (2:42 with passenger)! I think lap time here is very much related to bhp...

Ok, tentatively here is the lap smile
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oz_-nXo1DoI

So my list of excuses (smile) is...
Its a dearer car so it is challenging to really push it!
I was only there for the afternoon and it was first time at a track with this car and therefore with the reduced seat time I am less familiar with the controls
I couldn't really manage the gearbox fast enough on the downshifts - HnT is trickier with this pedal layout..ended up ignoring HnT
The above meant I was braking a lot earlier and more deliberate with the gear changing to avoid rear axle lock up (you'll see the correction at Stowe where the car was stepping out on me)
I don't like cup+ tyres - wish I had a set of Cup 2s on this car - On the 996 with Cup 2s you can really play at the edge of grip as there is so much feedback
Brakes were not as strong as I would like - not sure what fluid is in the car. Soft pedal/felt like the fluid was boiling over

As you say, when I compared to my 996 GT3 laps the corner speeds were not much different so all the hesitation was definitely not pushing the car to its full capabilities. Most time being made up by the extra grunt of the engine.

...now having said all the above sorry excuses, I had a ball! The geo was really good, the car was turning in and rotating well...it sounded phenomenal!

Yes, it certainly felt great smile We are so fortunate to have these historic race tracks available to us!

(435 bhp is a lot! How much does it weigh?)

Just watched the clip. Epic sound was on the edge of my seat the whole lap, brilliant!
Last time on the scales 980kg but probably another 50kg now.
So looking forward to getting back to Silverstone.

Not very fast compared to some on here, but 2:41 in a 1991 Turbo MX5 with 206bhp, crap LSD and melted brakes wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be! I did cheat a bit at Copse.

https://youtu.be/xhxpUeub-zo?t=11m53s

Should get into the mid 30s with some Wilwoods, no traffic and a bit more commitment.

Didn't look too shabby at all. Copse at over 100? That would be very brave! I'm only at 85 (GPS) at the apex in a car with much wider tyres smile

Lovely open top blue sky views...
