I have some videos of me attempting to follow him.... I will put them up.

I was in a car with 800bhp per tonne, a sequential gearbox, cage, proper tyres, I was even wearing fireproof undies and socks... all the gear, no idea! wink
and this and I dont mean to be rude or offend, but slightly tatty looking E36 (maybe it was just dirty?) came up behind me on a bend... so I let it past and TRIED to follow.... however he then made me look like I was out for a sunday pottle in chitty chitty bang bang!!!!

The body roll and attitude of the car makes me think it was bog standard as well? and there was some blue smoke coming out the exhaust!

but the driver... HERO!

and I am no Ring Virgin.... I am not quick at Ring really (apart from in my Clio where I would murder Darren and his pony race one wink ) but that Lizard M3 will be forever in my memory! EPIC.

Love to buy you a drink at the next one. I think Darren pointed you out in the briefing?

will dig out the video for ya!

Thanks Alex, some good shots on there. Did your cooling problem stay away? It looked as though you left early as I din't see your car about much after lunch.

We stayed an extra day at Spa. Some very decent people helped us get back and Lizard took the car home on his trailer.

Steve, the wheel is from the Seat/armco interface on Monday.

There was still a problem. I tried removing the thermostat, but the temperature would still creep up after a few laps. It's with Dan at Surrey Subaru who is investigating further.

It ran fine on the way home except that without the thermostat it ran too cold on the motorway, so I had to use the old trick of shoving a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator!

Is anyone else having trouble accessing xtreme-sports-photography.co.uk website? (for the Spa photos?)
Anybody have any more info on this? Website still down and I've tried the email address which also doesnt work. Not very happy as the CD I paid £35 on the Tuesday doesnt work! Pretty poor service.

That would have been fantastic...he's a great driver. What did you think of the 964 and what sort of times was he taking you round in? smile

Sorry to hear that Alex, I mentioned this to Chris who has worked on a couple of Imprezas in the past. He reckons it is a head gasket issue. He said they only stay reliable in standard spec, as soon as they start to increase the power they get problems. At least you got home without the need for recovery!

What you need is a nicely prepped GTV 6 fast road/track day car. Drove out, 22 laps at the 'Ring, at least 8 or 9 7 or 8 lap seesions at Spa, drove home. She din't miss a beat and used just half a litre of oil. Who says old Italian cars are crap!!

You know I love GTV6s Alex, but I suspect yours gets a *lot* of attention.

Having maintained examples of other marques since my exclusive Alfa period, I have realised how tricky 116-series Alfas are to work on!
