After a few years trying to convince myself that I don't need to go on track days any more, I now give up. It's too much. I have to get back out.
My plan is for a track E36 M3 or 944 to start with, but I could do with getting back out in a hire car (and an instructor) before spending too much cash - I am probably well out of date.
Caterham's are all over the place for hire, but what about something less extreme? You used to be able to hire track prepared 944 and 205 gti but I can't see anyone now, has anyone any experience of a good track car hire operation? Circuit can be anywhere from Brands to Donnington.

RPM Technik have a 944 you can hire; Track Focused have a 986 Boxster; quite a few companies offer Elises. Expect to pay at least £800 for the day - plus £300 or so for tuition from the likes of Malcolm Edeson, Gary Marsh, Mike Wilds, etc

A good car and instructor at a realistic price are available via a new organisation called 'Billy Whiz'. Howard Hunt is one of the best instructors out there and has a 2.5L V6, 180bhp MGZS for hire. It is standard except for track day tyres. The car also has a VideoVBox datalogger in it. The MGZS is an excellent car, pretty quick, at Oulton it has done a 2.13 lap in the hands of Howard. MGZS's handle really well with virtually no body roll straight out of the box. At Anglesey recently, Howard was overtaking race prepped cars with this standard road car! 2.13 Lap of Oulton: www.billywhiz.co.uk/data-loggingAnglesey coaching: www.billywhiz.co.uk/instruction-and-driver-coachingThe whole package is from £500 (depending on where) including car, instructor and datalogger.

Best for service , support choice etc are www.track-club.com or Bookatrack if you want a Caterham which I guess you don't. track-club have a Clio 197 thAt I've seen Mark Hales use and a Megane that I saw Le Mans driver Tommy Erdos coaching with at Brands

http://www.tom-ingram.com/Try this chap. Currently in the G55 in the Ginetta Supercup. Excellent driver and coach. I believe he will soon be able to provide a track prepared M3 if you don't want to use your own car. Note - I am biased as he is a friend of mine and I sponsored him in his early days in Ginetta Juniors.
