"Racing helmet"

Yes, they are different as they need fire protection also, that was not what you asked for advice on.
errrm not quite sure how to reply to this.

Please don't buy a motorbike helmet if you can afford a FIA racing helmet(they aren't that expensive if you look at around). The interor of a bike helmet will melt in your face in seconds in case of fire. They are not designed for the same purpose.
however if you are doing a track day in a vehicle with a full interior and you are wearing street clothes , then FR helment lining is the least of your worries ...

You asked for advice on a trackday helmet.

I have only ever seen TDOs require that a motorcycle helmet is appropriate, I have not looked at their own rental helmets, but suspect they are probably just motorcycle helmets.

Everyone I know just uses motorcycle helmets, so I assumed that that is what you were asking about.

"Racing helmets" require fire retardent linings, and so they are different from motorcycle halmets as they also conform to FIA/MSA standards.

What you buy is probably a reflection of how you value your head.
As soon as I thought about that I bought a Snell 2005/2010 compliant helmet, and fitted a roll over hoop.
And delayed a similar value of mods to the car.....

He's a small business based at Uppingham, Northants. He works by mail order, and is happy for you to return anything that doesn't fit. It's a very popular helmet around the track day circuit as it is a properly crash tested helmet at a decent price. Give him a call. He's happy to discuss.

Roll cage - mine for the TVR was from Roll Centre Racing at St. Ives, Cambs. Cost about £350 plus fitting.

I disagree. Its better to do what you can with the money you have. There is a good reson that TDO (at least here) wants cotton clothing for the drivers, although not fireproof it still doesnt melt to your skin like synthetic materials do. When skintight garments melt to your skin it SEVERLY complicates the damages.

For track days I use SNELL2010 helmets, normally with a NOMEX shirt and gloves+shoes+ regular jeans or similar. OF course full kit is the best, but that might not always be possible for a simple track day.

I add some pretty nasty pictures. it is a normal ECE 22.05 bike helmet. Its tested with a torch at 50 cm distance. The helmet and interior lit on fire after about 1 second. After 6 seconds the whole interior was a pool of melted plastic underneath.

The idea of my head being on fire doesn't fill me with much joy. If the interior is dripping molten plastic onto me then I would like my helmet to be the last thing to burn.
