RAF Odiham - 29.09.2012

Yes a big shame...did one lap just to work out where everything was and saw the red flag as I came round towards the exit.
Really felt for the MSE team, both ED and Natahsa were obviously pretty cut up about the day. They had worked really hard to pull off an event at Odiham and were probably more dissapointed than everyone that it went wrong so early in the day.
Evryone was pretty understanding and ED made a great offer of a decent credit against one of their other days so all is not lost.(and they didnt have to do that either)
The day will have cost them a chunk of cash I reckon so I will continue to go on as many of their fantastic days as I can to help them recoup some of thier losses.
Had a nice drive home across country but looking to book another day as soon as poss now before winter sets in.

That was a real shame as the conditions were great. As already said hats off to the organisers for handling it well and for giving everyone some credit to book another day.
I'll definitely book some more days with MSE, probably next year now. I really hope that this doesn't mean the end of track days at Odiham though

Just got back after the early end to the day. That's the second cancelled day this week after the rain at silverstone. Very disappointed for Jason and all the guys at MSE. I hope this is not the end for days at Odiham.
Great customer service from the organisers and they all looked gutted at the decision that had to be taken. I know we all make mistakes on track days but there was a briefing that emphasised time and time again about taking it easy to start with as there were expensive and vital bits of the airfield not to hit and to build up speed slowly. Pity not everyone decided to listen.

I was in the car that hit the the light... and can say that we were truly gutted for MSE and for all the drivers who had their day cut short. I have never wanted the ground to swallow me up more...We did listen to the talk at the start and i wholley agreed with everything they said, im and experienced trackday enthusiast but this time unfortunatley, it was an accident largly as a result of my naevity.
I thought my little brother could step in to my car and drive it safely having very little experience in a powerful car. Unfortunatly on his second corner of the day, he learnt the very hard way; a GT3, 2nd gear and puddles don't mix... The car tank slapped its way down the track, veered onto the grass, and then in slow motion drifted toward the only light for 100s of yards... Just our luck.
Luckily we and the car were fine, the light was not.
It was a terrible bit of bad luck, and we can't apolergise enough to every one involved for the outcome.

Anyway I blame Rex, he jinxed the event by turning up, just like he managed to do at Silverstone on Monday.
Is 2 abandoned track days is a week a record or has ony one else had it worse?
Gutted to hear the day was called off in the end... we headed off after Irling's brief about the meeting with the base commander as we had already broken the gearbox in the Fury after 3 laps.
Could someone PM me the details of how to get a credit against future MSE event please. I know i was heading home with a broken car anyway, but i paid the same as everyone else so would like to benefit from the credit (if i can get the car back in a reasonable state sometime soon).
Cheers
Tim

I am not sure that is in the spirit of what they were trying to achieve with the offer of a credit!
You had kind of already screwed up your own day anyway! And dare I say if you are going to do something thats a bit cheeky why tell the world that you are a bit sneaky.
That's all a bit high and mighty really isn't it! You had kind of already screwed up your own day anyway! And dare I say if you are going to do something thats a bit cheeky why tell the world that you are a bit sneaky.
Don't worry about it... I'll give Ed and Natasha a call and explain the situation, I'm sure they'll be more charitable than you.

Sorry I just said it like I thought it. You are right I am sure they will be very charitable. I was just taken aback about someone using other peoples misfortune to benefit themselves.
No worries... It was the "you screwed your own day up" that got my back up. My post clearly stated that i was gutted for everyone that the day was stopped and i really am, it was a fantastic circuit layout, great quality surface and great weather! I just thought that my misfortune so early in the day with the gearbox might have been looked upon more kindly in like minded company.I'll call Ed on Monday.
