oversteers in fast corners, but i'd expect that from a RWD car.
That is is a sure indication of toe out on the rear.

Again, yes. Ahead of the wheel where the trailing arm mounts. 3 bolts, again will be seized solid unless changed. If you don't want to get them out yourself get some new ones from BMW for the poor sap you pay to do it

Huh, neat!

I've done the rest of the car so no fear of doing these small jobs over winter. Hopefully wont be as bad as youv've made it sound even though the car is 17 years old!

Maybe making it sound worse than it is, mine came out with hand tools (big breaker bar) and some grunting/swearing. Soak in WD40 or somesuch beforehand. careful not to round off the bolt heads. A few quid for fresh bolts cheaper than shredding tyres
