Ok so i phoned them yesterday
they told me my car was ok, even with the cage and that the 888's would be ok too will take them but might not use them as knowing my luck the weather will be crap! I have to drive the car to the circuit which is a pain as its a trek but not the end of the world i guess.

These days are supposed to be for novices, there are plenty of days for more experienced drivers.
There's no way of policing it - just a marketing gimmick.

Why is that relevant for track days if no-one (other than at RMA) is supposed to be diving up the inside?I would have thought it's more important at a track day to be checking mirrors ASAP after corner exit.

I get a 45 second window when I sign people on - there's a small chance to cull a mouth breather there but you'd be horrified. Yes... thats wrong IF they are experienced trackdrivers...As Johnny said though, you can be a novice in a track focused and quite quick car. My sister and mum borrowed my ExigeS to do a novice day once for example.
I think it should be policed properly... and they do try. I rang up MSV and tried to book a novice afternoon at Brands and the guy recognised my name and laughed. I said I was not gonna drive much and it was mainly as a present for someone else to drive in my car etc. etc... They wouldnt let me.
So they do try and keep it sensible.
I think its great that MSV are looking at ways at getting more people on track to enjoy the hobby that we all love.... good marketing and thinking and I hope it works and its policed properly so that they make money and the drivers enjoy it as well
Thats kinda down to the people as well though isnt it... I mean I know that I am pretty quickish on some tracks and have some quickish cars that are 100% road legal. But it wouldnt be fair going to the day and coming up fast on some beginners in their pride and joy etc.
There are plenty of days to choose from for me to enjoy. So let the people who dont go on the normal trackdays enjoy their time as well.

I like them. But I would like them more if atoms and caterhams and such type of cars are not allowed on road car days. Think I draw the line at elises. But that is my opinion. It may or may not work in terms of what MSV is after and how they may maximise the potential number of people turning up (in the long run).
Still, it is a good effort and a step in the right direction.

I don't really follow your logic at all - surely what MSV is after here is making trackdays less intimidating for newcomers who want to track their road cars, effectively extending Bike Magazine's "reclaim our tracks" campaign (which excluded non-road-legal bikes and any bikes that weren't ridden to the track) run in conjunction with MSV. I have a Caterham that's running R888s, but it's fully road legal, and I've driven it to and from both trackdays I've done in it so far. It's a road car that does trackdays, and just because it's a Caterham doesn't mean it's fast/intimidating for other trackday users, and it's certainly not with me at the wheel!
For me, and as people are saying above, it's about driving standards and attitude rather than what kit you turn up in.
