All you do is drive the car, it is fully automatic. Starts to work at about 100mph with the wing flat by 120mph
Other than car speed I have no manual control of it, The angle of atack can be pre set for both wing up and wing down.
I was very lucky to get the spring rates and linkage lengths right first time. The springs are actually Rover V8 valve springs.

I'm being serious though, that has no place on a classic car.
Some people are only interested in looks, rather than having fun in a car. It's only really classic in it's silhouette. It's great to see initiative. BRILLIANT !

Looks interesting but have you used a wind tunnel to prove the concept works? It might be making you slower and just complicate the process of adjusting the handling from track day to track day.

I am doing this for the challemge and for fun. with 330bhp the MG was very tail happy and flighty. Since fitting the rear wing with the DRS and the front splitter the car has become much more stable and easier to drive fast. Also lap times have improved.
I would love to test it in a wind tunnel but its not worth me spending the money!
Cheers

Aha, don't go to Spa or Monza with it then, will lose all that down force just when you need it, even in a pretty regular car you are at times cornering at well north of 100mph, Spa I turn in at Blancimont at 120mph on the clock & even Eau Rouge in my pals similar car but he's braver than me! is 115 on the logger.

Regardless of what it looks like, it's a bloody clever idea. I applaud your DIY skills.

Strange thought there, so you think if he took the wing off the car to drive round Spa, you think he would get better down force ??? In an MGB GT. Probably not.

Indeed if he went to a track with lots of high speed corners I daresay he could lock the mechanism out to prevent the DRS activating, or keep it in a fixed position if that were preferable.

A mate of mine on here (andylaurence) has been messing around with the aero on his ADR2 that he uses for sprinting. He found a couple of packages that allow you to simulate aero changes to a car. bear in mind this allows comparison against a theoretical baseline and doesn't reflrect real world conditions but may allow you to play with the design in the virtual world before trying ti out for real

he has a blog mentioned in one of his posts on here have a read might help you without having to go to a wind tunnel !

Completely addictive.....I bought my car and it was fine, then I tinkered and broke it multiple times in the name of performance....I've now got it working 100% again for the first time in 18 months, so feel the itch to go out an fit a new air intake and new fuelling management system just for the hell of it......

Im glad im not the only one!
I think I should change the name from a Drag Reduction System to a Variable Downforce System.
People assume that when it operates the downforce disapears. In fact when it operates the angle of attack changes from the pre set maximum to a pre set minimum. So I still have downforce in fast turns and on straights and the wing still generates some drag. In slower corners ( below 100mph ) the angle of attack is steeper so generating more downforce. Hope that makes sense.

Which corners do you take at over 100mph?

I presume that this extra downforce is almost all at the rear,
if so, how's your turn-in? Are you tempted to add some front wing too?

If you watch the video clip, Folly is the only corner at Castle combe where the wing is down. Turn in is very good. Car has 330bhp and weighs about 980kg.

I tell you what, that's a cracking design you have there,

irrespective of how it fits the aesthetics of the car, I bloomin love it!

you can fairly pedal too, the car looks like a fair handful, and judging by your figures, it looks like a hoot!

well done that man!

For some reason I feel that i have a quest to make the car as good as possible in a DIY way.
