I wonder what the likely hood is of the insurer wanting to pay the 3rd party? The cynic in me thinks they would wriggle and swerve like buggery if it was a potentially big pay out?! So the cover would act like some kind of legal defence in addition to being a financial safety net - if you get where I'm coming from. Or, could they just run for the hills and let the driver get prosecuted?
