Don't worry Dan911....I will be the slowest and will be blaming it on my 100Kg mate plus lack of talent!!

First time at the 'Ring and seriously excited. Orange Exige that is currently being treated to fresh brakes.

Just slapped a PH sticker on my helmet looking forward to seeing some PHers and this guy called Dan Trent biggrin

One month to go!

Perfect timing for the Exige to be away at the garage with electrical gremlins. Fingers crossed she'll be sorted in time!!
Exige is now back on the road and fighting fit for the event (it was catastrophic ECU failure!)

See you all there...Look out for the black Exige and the gf's R53 MINI GP (both with PH smileys front and rear).

Excited but stressed right now! Having mapping issues on the Z4 which may not get resolved until after I arrive in Germany..!

Where are PH'ers on this event staying? Myself and a mate (Litchfield-tuned GTR) are camping out in the Hotel a.d. Nordschleife. Will be arriving Sunday afternoon to chill out and watch a bit of TF carnage for a day or two before the main event.

Happy to offer some laps to any first timers as not bringing a passenger for once, so come say hi if you see me. By no means the fastest, but know it fairly well now smile

Anybody flying into Cologne Tuesday night and wants to share a taxi to the Ring, or I'll pay for space in a hire car?

Hope all gets resolved. Our car arrives back from the garage on Friday, new engine, ecu, brakes, tyres. So i guess i'll have a once over myself on Friday evening. Saturday morning i'll set the suspension up then hopefully all loaded up on the trailer and done! Cutting close as always.

We are heading up on Monday, chilling out Tuesday, but look out for an A3 2.0 TDI Sportback trying to get under 9 mins on Tuesday TF haha.

I was due to be away at work for DN but now find that I am stuck in the UK for another week. So in short if anyone would like any assistance next week for unpaid or paid work please give me a call (07510-908369) or text me on that number. I have done plenty of trips over to the Nordschleife and do not mind co-piloting or driving taking a trailor across to Nurburg. Or absolutely anything else preferably abroad.

I am based in Kent and not a young scrote. References available ;-)

As I say I am happy to do pretty much anything gratis.

We need Dale from Rent4Ring to organise another MTB ride out on the Wednesday evening.

Was one of the folks on that ride out (thanks again Dale!), was a lot of fun. Alas we did have to organise a ride back in a car for one poor chap mid-way through (lightweight). The MTB rental was 15 EUROS for a Specialized MTB, great value for money.

Just on my way back from a weekend at the Ring (although now in Baden-Baden, so a slight detour). Weather flip-flopped between apocalyptic rain and occasional dry spells , which provided plenty of space on the track and at the car park. Have fun on Weds/Thurs!

Back! I didn't know whether to post here or not but for those reading this thread & wondering it was one of the best a days at the Ring I've had in the 4 years I have been there (all previously tourist days).

I was totally bricking it and wimped out of being on track when it "went green" especially with some of the very serious looking machinery there, but after a stern talking to myself I got out there and loved it. Didn't love the 3 hours of stoppage but at least everyone was (relatively) ok. I am 101% going next year and certainly saving the pennies to drive both days.

Darren and the guys did a sterling job & were all really lovely to talk to. I was very impressed. Oh and my ride in the Porsche powered bus? Crazy! Just wish I didn't get so damned car sick as a passenger!

Was good to meet people in the pit lane and make new friends.

However the track closures were too much. I'll be going tourist days next time.

I take it there were quite a few shunts? Shame as I have been on 5 DNs so far and I have only experienced one big stoppage.

We were discussing this too unfortunately. However, it is worth remembering that we made a pact to stop tourist days due to all the closures so doing the same with DN track days doesn't leave much other option!

I came to the conclusion that seeing as most people on the track days are more experienced, any accident there is will be a big one. We only did Wednesday, but the amount of closure was unacceptable for the cost.

On the last 2 DN events i did I've personally seen the track closed for over 7 hours!

I'm not saying it's DNs fault of course, the blame must surely stand with the 'tards who spoil everyone's fun but 7 hours of closure between two separate track days is beyond a joke.

Personally, I'd rather have seen double yellows at foxhole to keep the day running but that's just my opinion.

Not sure what the accident was that closed it at lunchtime so can't comment on that.

The coming together that closed it permanently at the end of the day might be judged an accident waiting to happen & something that needs thought for the future. Personally, if using the GH car park as a base, I think a flying lap is a daft idea anyways-just make everyone come off at GH as per TF days. It can only reduce the chances of what happened happening again, keep flying laps for when the VLN circuit is used with the GP pits.

As someone who wasn't there, and is considering this for next year, can I ask what the incidents were? And what people thought generally of the driving standards? I've heard good things in the past, but looking at the comments here and on the news story, I feel I need to ask the question.

It was my first time at the 'Ring and I picked a DN day because I assumed standards would be high and no closures.

Loved the event but was disappointed with the closures and driving standards. I was far and away one of the slowest cars so was pulling over a lot...not really a problem BUT....the amount of cars who pushed through without consent was very high. This happens but we were specifically briefed by Darren not too and people just didn't listen. Some even pushed me out the way which forced me into a crap line that was a bit dodgy for me. Oh well; its bound to happen occasionally but the individual who passed me on the right whilst I was being passed on the left took the biscuit. The result was 3 hours of closed track which ruined everybody's day.

I may sound like I am moaning but I paid a lot of money to drive with other like minded people not idiots who bully you out the way. Also met a lot of people who have done multiple events and they were a bit disappointed, maybe letting race teams attend with road cars is not the best idea.

I was one of the first cars on the scene of the last crash...didnt really see what happened as I was busy trying to jam on the brakes from 140. I think there was another car who was involved (BMW VLN car). He was in my way for the whole of the previous lap (slow in corners but booted it on the straights) so had given him room so I wouldn't get annoyed on the next lap. It was very messy and expensive, hoped the 2 involved were ok and cars can be fixed.

My two pence anyway. Awesome day but a bit disappointing in parts.

I wouldn't let it put you off going, Darren runs a good event & can't be held responsible for the actions of others.

The simple fact is, the nurburgring is the nurburgring-accidents will happen! It's too big to police driving standards completely.

Driving standards seem to be no better than TF IMHO, though I'm not sure why it should be expected that they would be? The only things you don't get are the ratty stboxes & bikers, but just because someone can afford a GTR it doesn't make them a better or more courteous driver!

The accident issues are a tough one for the event organiser. The marshals are nurburgring employees & the event organiser is at the mercy of their decisions, if they want to shut it there's essentially nowt DN can do about it. I don't know for sure but it would appear that the days of putting cones out & double yellows in an accident area are a thing of the past, which is a shame as it would keep the day moving.

It was the same last Easter when the event didn't start until half 11 due to ice. I don't expect Darren & the team out with blow torches but iirc it was only at the top of foxhole, would it have been too much effort to put some salt out & marshalled it with double yellows? Again, not the event organisers fault but the ring staff didn't exactly seem that bothered about getting the show on the road so to speak.

People wonder when health & safety will spell the end for the track, IMO it's creeping in already with their reluctance to work on a live track. I don't expect anyone to work in conditions that would put them at risk but it doesn't change the fact that the nurburgring should proved event organisers like DN with a recovery truck complete with team who can clean up & slow down traffic to make it safe to work on. That way, the workers get to do there job safely & the paying customers get to do what they turned up to do-drive.

A shame, but my most enjoyable lap was my solitary TF lap the evening before the event at circa 7pm. Warm conditions, few other cars & that lovely early evening sun that makes the place look so attractive. It felt like it did years ago driving
