Finally finished my MX5 track car build and eager to get out and using it as intended. However, I've only driven a few circuits before (Donington, Bedford, Castle Combe) and there is such a wide range of options out there. I know that the MX5 is great fun around corners, but appreciate it isnt the fastest thing in a straight line.

Any tracks better suited to the MX5's characteristics? Any to avoid?

I'm based near Cambridge, so not too far from a good number of places.

Was thinking Snetterton, Mallory, Rockingham, Brands, Cadwell in addition to Bedford and Donington.

Oulton Park is nice. May be a bit too far for you?

Both Donnington and Bedford are great in an mx5. Don't worry about the straight line poke, concentrate on how much speed you can carry in the corners. Craner curves proper tiptoe fun, especially in the wet smile

Another vote for Blyton & Cadwell, luckily my closest tracks.

Thanks for the comments - Cadwell and Blyton certainly seem a good shout (although a bit of a trek).

Anyone done Mallory or Rockingham?

Goodwood is great too - similar to Castle Combe. It has some great fast corners (and a lack of run-off) that can be daunting in quick cars but which are great fun in slower stuff.

Not too far but I do a sprint day at curborough which is good technical little track, few mx5s go and perform well round there,

Ment to say it's good for shakedowns too as it's cheap at 60quid for the full day and you get plenty of runs out

Coastal is good, but an MX5 will feel a bit asthmatic on the full international circuit with the loop to the hairpin.

I got bored of mallory pretty quickly to be honest. Donnington is probably one if my gmfavourites in this area, great variation of corners and gradients and as someone else said the craner curves are fantastic

Goodwood is probably the fastest circuit and yet proves to be great on the basis that you don't need to slow down at all. If you push, you'll be surprised at what you can catch.

Excellent - I've done Donny a few times in other cars and it's a bit pricey, so will leave that for now. However, Mallory and Rockingham have just shot to the top of the list. Altough I might sneak in a quick trip to Bedford too as it is so close to me.

Just about to mention this perfect for a mx5 and at only 90 quid a cheap day. Went to one last year September in m7 1.6 eunos and of the 35 odd cars booked in 14 where mx5s was a great day.
