Mmm, interesting. I must admit I didn't notice an increase in torque when I used them, but did notice the feeling that the engine was being strangled approaching 6k. Saying that, last time I was at the same track (Oulton Park), with the inserts, I didn't really rev it much past 6k anyway (and therefore not 'cheating' the noise tester).
