I have no affiliation with bookatrack but I hired one of their R300s yesterday and wanted to comment on their service.

By the time I arrived (7:45), the car was set up in the pits, with 2 mechanics there all day. A friend and I used the car around 90% of the time available - ie there was very little time when one of us wasn't on track in the car.

The car was well-prepared; everything worked exactly as it should; the mechanics kept the car full of petrol all day; they checked over the car at lunchtime.

All-in-all, it's excellent service, and I would really recommend this to people.

It's not cheap (around £1000 for the car for day), but I find it cheaper than running my own track car!

I have used BAT to hire Caterhams a couple of times in the past and also received first rate service smile

Got to be one of the most cost effective ways to track an R300 for most users.

I was there yesterday too - in mine, but have hired the R300s in the past too. First rate day and service.

OP you may recognise this footage of the day from my vx220 chasing bookatrack no.8 (you're in the passenger seat for the second half)...

I was there on Thursday too.
Was a bit surprised the bookatrak car I was following didn't have any brake lights, when it braked hard and early for a corner...

I thought that's what the light in the middle of the rear cage was supposed to be?
If so, it wasn't working.

Is it bit a rain light?

Have used Jonny's Caterhams on and off for a few years, never been anything less than 100% awesome.

Yep - no brake lights on the R300s - the light in the middle of the rear cage is a high intensity light for when it's raining! I hope it wasn't me braking hard and early (unlikely I think!)

Hate track days with cars/kit cars with no brake lights

Maybe you should consider, you know, figuring out your own braking points?

I've used BATs Caterham service in the past and I would say it's excellent.

If you're in a Megane trying to use a Caterham braking point it'll end in tears for you. Depending on the corner you might just need a small lift in a 7 where as tintops actually have to slow down.

This ^^^

Several years ago we had a couple of cases in a short period of time where hatchbacks/road cars drove into the back of our Caterham Superlights (road cars, with brake lights) and in both cases the driver of the car behind was driving on the brake lights of the car in front.

Last year at Zandvoort I witnessed two Caterhams drive into the same tyres one after the other - with a rear-end impact to boot. The car behind was waiting for the car in fronts brake lights, but the car in front f**ked up the corner...

Formula cars don't have brake lights and I fail to see why any race car should need them. You should never *ever* under any circumstances be driving on the brake lights of the car in front.

I didnt at any point say i was using a Caterham as a braking point. I have the same issue with 'race cars' having no brake lights on a track day which isnt a race its just an annoyance more than any thing.

I can see the point Trackmegane was trying to make about no brake lights after recently being behind a Caterham on a sighting lap who I nearly rear ended when he/she suddenly braked hard with no warning. This was then followed by another hard brake at the next corner (which I was ready for that time). Combined with the different lines he/she was trying out compared to the 'Ducks and Drakes' ahead I then realized the driver knew the circuit and was just using the sighting laps to warm up the tyres and brakes and didn't give two hoots to us 'poor sods' (copyright Jonny of BaT briefing) behind, most of whom were new to the circuit.

I'd have a word with the trackday organisers if I saw that kind of behaviour - there is absolutely no point in this and it sounds dangerous. Sighting laps are just that - and by the time you've finished the sighting lap, gone into the pits, waited for the track to open and got back out on tracks, the tyres and brakes will be cold again anyway.

Also, let's face it, who really needs to be operating at 100% of capacity from the first corner of the first lap of the trackday. Idiots only, I'd suggest.
