Track days for the South!
Discussion
I'm just starting to get into track days, and live near to Southampton. It's quickly become apparent that those of you in the North, and the Midlands have a far better choice of venues than us lot down here!
I've done Castle Combe (good fun, but about 200 miles of boring driving there and back) and Goodwood (closest, but around double the price of anywhere else!)
Any tips on some more nearby tracks, or who to book through to get decent rates, would be really useful.
Thanks

Brands Hatch and Lyddon Hill are not that far away for you - Brands obviously cheaper in Indy format than GP and worth doing - Lyddon is far more basic but if you are keen to keep costs down it may be your kind of thing
If your car is quiet there is also Thruxton in the SW
After that it's North of London to Bedford, Snetterton, Silverstone Donington Rockingham, Cadwell, Oulton Croft, Anglesey etc and a much longer drive and potentially an overnight stop over

I live near Pompey and track my car about 5-6 times a year. Generally do Bedford, Silverstone, Brands, Combe, Goodwood, hoping to get to Thruxton in the summer, though they don't run many days and have a low Db limit. For the cost of the day in general, going further afield isn't a problem for me, I generally go up the night before and stay in the cheapest hotel I can find. Doing the whole day in one, driving there and back can be very tiring, especially when you spend all day going flat out and the concentration that entails.
It's usually Motorsport Events that do Abingdon days.
Lotus on Track are usually good value at Goodwood and say they accept 'many' other 2 seater sports - you would need to be a member £30 and check with them re car type.
Otherwise it's a longer journey as others have said - but would be worth it
If only there was a website where you could find track days by distance from where you live... Sorry, couldn't resist.

Thanks Mozzer... Are trackdays the cheapest then?
Also, do big sites like that tend to list all the tracks? I'd hate to think I was missing out on somewhere, just because they're not affiliated with each other...
Thanks for all the other help too! :-)

Actually I was referring to the on-track website in my profile - It was a cheeky (but helpful) plug Also, do big sites like that tend to list all the tracks? I'd hate to think I was missing out on somewhere, just because they're not affiliated with each other...
Combe a long way from Southampton?? Go the fun way (to Salisbury, onto Melksham, then Chippenham) and you spend a good chunk of the journey on Salisbury Plain and it's only 65 miles each way.
Motorsport Events also arrange days at Thruxton, in addition to Combe and several "southern" airfield sites.

I live near Chichester and plan to do a few track days this year. Other than Goodwood (which is expensive and group sessions only) all involve a 1 - 2+ hr drive.
I am hoping to book Castle Combe in May and Thruxton in June both with Motorsport-events. The other circuits I would consider are Brands Hatch and as I mentioned above Goodwood.

Also worth considering norther France track days, they are often 1/2 the price of UK and there are some fun tracks. We find it cheaper and quicker to get to Spa for a track day than to drive some of the norther UK tracks - distance may be further but better drive.
I don't do many track days but I would love to drive Spa - Do you have a link for them?Gassing Station | Track Days | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
