Just to follow on from this comment, here is an article on the Nordschleife which says that ADAC will recover members from the track without any additional payment www.nurburgring.org.uk/adac.php

When I looked into the ADAC thing, their website said only cars/people registered in Germany were permissable?

Am I missing something?

Quote: Using the links below to acquire ADAC membership requires that your place of residence is in Germany.

This just means you can't sign up online. smile You have to join by phone. Ring the membership number, politely ask if the person speaks English and either they will (very well) or they'll transfer you to someone who does.

It seems to be by far the best breakdown service to have for trips to Europe (it's not car specific) and it also covers the UK.

Just for a laugh, I enquired with the AA (used to be a member). They wanted £230 ON TOP of a years membership!!! eek Sod that!

I'll be ringing ADAC when I'm back in the UK - it's too sticky here in Ghana and the internet is intermittent most of the day...
