Sports/ Performance cars you rarely see on a trackday
Discussion
Mate took his z3 (3ltr) on a trackday with us. Granted his was a bit of a shed with mixed ditchfinders all round, but he spun on the sighting lap (damp) & we all rolled around laughing. Then I tried driving it - hillarious. Any which way but the way it was pointing (fun), and properly cooked the brakes after 3(!!) laps of bedford. Fluid / pads would probably have helped, but they were woefully inadequate for track use (and I don't generally believe brake upgrades are necessary). Great engine tho..

id you do a day at Bedford last November? If not, you missed seeing a second one there!
Sorry, no.My last outing in an M5 was over 5 years ago - but have done a few days at Bedford in the past and one where a group of about 8 M5Board member attended - including one who almost rolled the car in the gravel whilst I was a passenger.
Have done Oulton Park, Donnington, Castle Combe, Silverstone, Anglesey (the original circuit), Abingdon, Bentwaters, Elvington, Prestwold (when it was still being used for trackdays of course) - mostly through Book-a-track or the BMWCC.

Don't see many mr2 tbh or mgf/tf compare that to mx5 and you will atleast see a minimum of 5 on any given track day. Also the ones there will generally know each other specially with the locak track days.
You're right about the MR2. I have seen a couple of mk2s, but no mk1s (too classic?) and no mk3s (seem to remember them needing a baffled sump?)Just bought a mk3 MR2 as a daily, might see about a track day!

Ive seen one at my local track llandow with less than 1000 miles on it stunning car was out twice then disappeared. Escort cossies
Any "performance" vauxhall
Peformance Vauxhall again seen a few vx220 and a few hot astras all though the owners of them generally don't like to be over taken by a half ton exocet kit car with just 130bhp. One got so upset of me getting past him he tried to follow my line through the very last corner at pembrey which in the exocet is almost flat with no braking yea he didn't fair to well on coming out of the corner and hit the barrier.
Its a strange thing with track days with what ive seen is the more expensive the car the worse the driver and the slower it is and also spends the least time on track.

I went to a Javelin airfield day on Saturday and there were two MGF's there both having loads of fun for not much money. This one had been bought for £400 complete with bucket seats, harnesses and a spare set of wheels and was pretty quick:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_WoQa4rHbs
The other one:
I track my Mk1 MR2 as often as possible! (Which is only about four times a year unfortunately.) It's brilliant on track, very well balanced and it's had a cheap brake upgrade to MR2 Turbo parts which is sensational. I have seen a few others on trackdays as well.
I have never seen a Cerbera or (bizarrely) an Ultima on track. I know that people do use them, but not often enough for my liking.

Ive seen one slk and it was the 5.5 was the slowest car on track driven by an old guy but he had a huge smile on his face and was out there till the end of the day along with me and 2 others.
There was a brand new SLK 250 CDI (or 220 not sure, the big one either way) diesel at Bedford back in the Spring and it overtook me down the straight, i was genuinely upset lolGassing Station | Track Days | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
