Hi Mark
Castle Combe....hehehsmile

It is on the exit from Quarry Corner.
I have a few more which should be downloaded to my Flickr account by tomorrow night or Tuesday – www.flickr.com/photos/pauljudge
It was good to see how well your car was going. What engine is in it please?
Paul
Cool, can't wait to see the other pictures.

It has a rx7 turbo engine in it running roughly 400bhp.

Turns out the bolts holding the turbo on were working their way loose, gas was escaping and melting the gasket... I thought it was getting louder and slower during the day hehe

RX7 Turbo – No wonder it goes so well. It also sounds great.

It's good fun to drive. Having said that it was a bit hairy before I softened off the shocks...

Yes, I saw you spin off but I was at “Old Paddock Bend” without my long lens so no photo, sorry. Looked safe enough though.laugh

Sounds really nice. Reminds me of my old 4.6l v8 westfield. You had a lot more respect for avon rise than I did... had no laptime software but glanced at the speedo and saw 135 before braking on a couple of occasions smile

How have you got the lap timer set up with the camera? I can see you're using Harry's laptimer but do you use the phone camera or something else? Would love to get a setup like that working.

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks Mark, yes probably very similar to your 4.6 westy. I am sure I could have gone though the Avon rise much faster but the man in the briefing kept popping into my head where he said it is the most crashed corner of any UK track.

Yes you are correct, Harry's lap timer. I am using the app running on my iPhone to capture the telemetry and the internal cam, then I have a GoPro mounted on top of the car which is the main picture. You can control the GoPro from Harrys lap timer via wifi and import into the app and render the two videos together with the telemetry overlaid. I have not had any luck at this so what I do is set the GoPro and app off manually before I leave the pits and sync them up manually on my Mac when I get home. It is a bit of a ball ache but the result is good.

I am hoping GoPro are going to release a GPS bacpac or a new camera with GPS built in as I see they have recently acquired Dashware. That would make the whole process much easier.

Very wise, I really pushed my luck going into that corner on a couple of occasions.

That looks very cool. I only have a gopro hero 2 at the moment which doesn't have wifi although I could sync them up manually as you're doing. When you do that what software do you use to merge the two feeds and what does harrys software produce that allows you to overlay it on the gopro video?

Sorry, hope you don't mind the questions.

Thanks,

Mark

It will work fine with a GP Hero HD 2. You can use Harry's Lap Timer to match the frames together which involves copying the GoPro file to the smart phone and importing it into the app. There is an interface in the app which allows you to scrub through and match the two vidoes up. If you have a GP with Wifi I am lead to believe it will do this for you.

The way that I do it is different and not ideal, I really need to get to grips with the app and use the above method. I have a 20 minute video of blue screen which I import into the lap timer app and set as the main video with the iPhone video record from the app as Picture in Picture (PIP) then I overlay the telemetry to that. I then import that into iMovie on the mac and then sync up that way. The blue screen is the same as green screen in terms of transparency when editing. I find it much easier on the big screen to match up videos than on the iPhone screen. It is a ballache but the results are good. Only issue is the quality of the PIP image is reduced using the blue screen as the blues are partially transparent.

Here is a screen shot of what I get from the the phone and import into iMovie. I just really hope that GoPro release a GPS camera soon as it is a lot of work doing it this way.

No problems on the questions keep them coming if you have any further Qs

That's fantastic, thank you very much indeed. I'll get a copy of the app and give that a go.

All the best,

Mark

No problems Mark, just drop me a PM if you have any questions after you have had a play with it. The documentation for the lap timer is good as well which helped me out, it can be found on their site.
