Does anyone bother with Trackday insurance these days?

Any recommended companies?

What sort of cover would you go for?

I would have thought some kind of "first party" only type cover would be all you'd need, if you wanted to cover your own car. Seeing as insurance is not compulsory and everyone at a trackday knows they are there at their own risk and not to expect anyone else to have insurance cover.

I'm running a trackday car with a market value of under £1000 so it may not be worth me getting trackday insurance at all.

I'm in a similar boat to you, my car's worth perhaps £1500 and it simply is not worth paying a £40-50 premium to insure it for each track day. Effort of arranging it aside, it would be a significant proportion of the day's cost, and I'd need to have a pretty colossal shunt to even make it worth claiming.

If I had something of greater value, I'd probably get it insured with a specialist who included track day cover with the normal road risk policy.

It won't because the excess could well be £1000.

I found the excess was typically 10% of the claim or the vehicle's total value, but I did see one where a £500 minimum was set. Never looked at it in too much detail, though.

What type of insurance? There is only 1st party.

Normal trackday insurance costs around £60/70 - excess £750/1000 so, if your car is only worth £1000 no brainer really.

Where are people gettign £70 quotes from? When I was looking the cheapest I could find was £130, which effectively doubled the cost of a trackday. My last insurer used to let me add them onto my main policy for £40 a time, max 5 days per year. But they dont cover BMWs.

I pay £60 per track day with Morris plus a tenner admin for up to £8,000 damage for either of our cars. Their online system is very good, just do it the day before or earlier as they don't do on the day insurance online.
