I realise i'm in the minority and it's not a popular suggestion, but I really don't think that track day licences are such a bad idea.

Yes, it costs money and it's a hassle to administrate, but it would give a central database of infringements and would ensure a minimum level of competence.

Great idea. Could also tie it in to a points system for TDOs...

Big crash at Brands yesterday that brought an early end to everyone's fun.

A team was testing and managed to barrel roll the car over the barriers at Paddock hill.

Guy in the pit said it was a shame as he was in his hottest lap so far.

This would imply timing which is a no no. Fortunately only the one car involved.

Testing and track days do not mix well in my book.
So I was there Gruffalo. I guess you were in the red TVR? I was in the silver Caterham 7. Who crashed? Was it the red Ginetta junior car or the PGM green caterham? Do you know if they were ok, as we packed up and left at about 3:30 so missed the excitement.

What I found most annoying all day was the silver Nissan 370Z mobile roadblock. Some kind of setup where passengers were given slow laps all day long. It may have been a charity gig, which is fab, but it was akin to granny driving at 30mph on a motorway. Grrrrrrrr.

I like the idea of a trackday license done in the style of Starbucks. Each clean TD equals one star. A black flag warning equals one lost. When you get to 15 stars you get a sausage roll free at brekkie. When you get beyond 25 with no deducted stars you get invitation TDs with others that have also achieved this heady peak. Gamification reward and recognition systems work, can be simple to manage, all TDOs use the same scheme.

I got black flagged at Cadwell the other day as the wind kept blowing my sleeve up so my right arm was uncovered. I'd have been raging if that had cost me a sausage rolllaugh

More bloomin' bureaucracy, lets legislate ourselves into the next millennium.

370Z thing was a corporate thing. Set up 3 years ago to help fund their racing. One chap racing Clips at the moment. Nice bunch of guys but agree that they were very slow. Found that they kept to the right most the time so no problem.
Car that crashed at Paddock Hill bend was a red fiesta. Was fully race prepared and driven in a reasonable manner. Don't know what happened to cause the crash but it was a biggie.
Instructor was limping a bit. Do not know anything about the lad.

BTW your Caterham was very quick and very well driven. I was in the black M3 and you came past me a few times at quite a rate. Looked to be fun in the wet. I managed to get a calm down board and a friendly discussion on my driving for excessive tail out behaviour in the morning but otherwise a great day

No sausage roll for you then laugh

I understand the driver of the fiesta was taken to hospital for checks but was OK.

I've got to say that I'm not in favour of the trackday licencing idea, it might work for the customers that Jonny gets with BaT and they may even be reassured by it but at the more mass-market end of the business it would put people off from coming to trackdays for the first time and it would be unlikely to actually weed out the idiots; just look at some of the examples of bad driving from racers who have passed their ARDS test..............

Thanks Rex! It was a fun track day because of the ever changing conditions. I'm also glad it dried up really well for at least a few max attack laps. We got the best of both worlds on Monday. At its greasiest I was only managing 1m15s laps, but I think the massive grin slowed me down too! I managed a few 56s laps around the 3pm mark before tiredness took over and we ran for the hills. I remember being behind you at some point enjoying your 'slip angles'...well driven too!
