It's my dad's 70th birthday coming up soon. One of his friends has asked me what to get him as a group of them are clubbing together to buy him a present.

My dad is into track days and we've done a few together. He has been talking about going to the ring for awhile but I don't have the time or cash to go to the nurburgring. I think he would love to go but doesn't want to go by himself. Is there a company who organises group trips? Do they offer hire cars? Dad has a track day mx5 and I'm sure he would be happy to drive it over himself as part of a group but depending on how generous his friends are there may be enough in the kitty for him to fly out, thrash a car and fly back. Ideal car is a caterham Sv or similar front engine rear wheel drive convertible.

Please let me know any reputable companies that you would recommend.

If you want to hire a car for the ring, i can recommend these guys: http://www.r-garage.de/#

I hired a GT86 from them a few weeks back (my s2000 broke!)

Was 600 euro's for 12 laps in the GT86. However there was a 9K euro excess! (not required up front)

They have quite a selection of cars.

However it would probably be a lot cheaper to use his MX5.

Bump - a friend has suggested circuit days. Any other thoughts?

The ring is the best. I would suggest drive the mx5 there as there are some good roads, and some autobahn!

I rented a swift from rent4ring and it was fantastic fun. I was worried it would be crap coming from an m3, but the swift is fantastic fun on the ring.

Absolutely. Rent4ring Swift is a superb first foray into the Ring and he will love it.

The ring rentals want a 9K deposit. You could buy a Golf GTi for that money.

Better to put into into a ring taxi.

The M5 F10 is about EUR350 and worth every penny, it also seats 3 PAX.

No the excess on a Swift is £2,500 or so. Very reasonable. And crashing is not compulsory anyway. I don't think you get to drive the ring taxi.
