Looks awesome. I'm sure that i remember them being raced in British GT. A car that was underdeveloped due to the sad and untimely death of Richard Lloyd iirc.

Why the engine swap?
http://www.emilfreyracing.com/ raced one this year in the Blancpain series. I seem to recall they did quite well with it.

V8mgbgt that is a lot of camber up front, nice project, should fly if finished.
Hi F1
Yea that's the Apex car which I'm building a road going version from from one of their shells.

As I have put XKR-S suspension on (same as F-type) it will be much more road able but look the same

Looks excellent. That sort of car should be raced, in something like the CSCC Specials Saloons and Modsports series
Hi Andy
I've got to learn to drive it first. So the odd track day will help.
Will have to look into special classes.

I built an MGB Sebring before this, but it had to go as ran out of work to do on it.

MX5/Eunos mk1 roadster, bought as a track day car and and something to fiddle with.

Decided it didn't have enough power so purchased a Rotrex supercharger kit, finally finished fitting it end of last year, then had a cooling issue so had to sort that, downside is I have missed all the track days this year.

Running 210ish hp, needs the sills repairing this year...

Moving to Bristol next spring and hoping to get it out more, as there are far more tracks closer than down in Brighton tbh.

Some great cars in this thread.

Here's mine - Formula 27 with Kawasaki ZZR1400 bike engine. Great, great fun.

Readers car thread about the last 6 years with it, and various blown engines / transformations to get it to it's current state.

XKR-S GT3

Still building it at moment

Genuine GT3 fully caged shell
XKRS suspension
F Type steering rack
LS9 supercharged engine. Stroked 6.8 litre. Over geared supercharger by 30%
Blisterin coil overs
Corvette ZO6 6 speed transaxle and LSD
Around 700hp and 1300kgs

Should be fun if I ever get it finished

Looks awesome. I'm sure that i remember them being raced in British GT. A car that was underdeveloped due to the sad and untimely death of Richard Lloyd iirc.

Well probably because the LS9 will make 700bhp all day long!

What a car!

Are you getting he intercooler bricks modded as some have disintegrated with high boost. Also worth looking at inlet mods to get the cold air into the supercharger (LPE intake snout is supposed to be very good).

I have had caterhams and westfields for coming up 12 years and last year bought an old Honda Crx and what good move that turned out to be, really enjoy using this car, the handling is unreal and it never ceases to amaze me at the lap times it will put in bearing in mind its thick end of 27 years old !! It has evolved a bit from when I bought it and is now running with K20 running gear.

there are a few videos of it in action on my you tube channel.

Great choice, love these cars but they're not easy to find now at all.

How much did a ZZR1400 engine set you back? Does it need to be dry sumped?

I've been toying with the idea of replacing the R1 engine in my Vortx but Busas don't seem great value for the performance gain.

Megane R26R

Pros

- quick enough to do some overtaking and not have to constantly be watching the mirrors (mine is chipped to 300bhp)
- all weather ability (bit of a weapon in the wet, yokos notwithstanding)
- comes track spec ready (cage, seats, harnesses etc)
- quite rare, bit of a future classic I think
- good fun with ability to cock a leg in tighter turns and amazing corner speed
- intake / exhaust noise at higher revs
- i like a bit of metal around me for track work these days; cage
- perfectly useable road car and epic on B roads

Cons

- looks a bit chavvy to some
- fwd doesnt offer the ultimate challenge of rwd
- engine note uninspiring
- slightly too noisy on drive by for quiet days

Nice car. But it cannot be that noisy on the drive there? Throw some headphones in your ears, job done? Not the most relaxing thing in the world if you have a boring motorway drive to track though...

"drive by" as in circuit noise limits... passes a 98dB static but easy to fail the drive by...cant really explain why other than makes a noise like a hoover possessed by the devil...hence had to short shift at goodwood. Fine on noisy days though

John I don't know what yours is like but my R26 only read 81 dB on a static test a couple of months back (completely stock exhaust). I couldn't believe how quiet it was because as you know these cars make a fair bit of noise when on boost flat out, off boost they seem surprisingly quiet. Very handy for getting out at Thruxton where the limit is 90 dB static.

It used to be the GT3, but the risk of a pricey write off was too much.

My GF and I went halves on a new track toy. Totally different to all previous cars/track cars (all rwd and rear engined).

It's a lot of fun, very fast (340bhp) and handles amazingly well. We bought it off a paraplegic (my GF is a tetraplegic), so it was already set up with hand controls. The spec is pretty good. Carbon bonnet, splitter and front end, KW adjustable race suspension, 360mm monoblock 6 pots etc.

After a couple of track days, we've spent a fair bit of money on a few bits and we'll be back out at Bedford on Saturday to test them out.

I had my cars exhaust custom built to be very quiet, so I could hear the engine over it, should it decide start to make noises before all the warning lights lit up (which is usually too late).

I do have extra gauges with warning buzzers, but I believe in planning for the worst when £3k engine builds are on the cards.

My current track toy, 2005 Widetrack Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Had a few of these over the years from WRX's to even the STI Hatch. Done a few days this year in it, Cadwell, Donnington. Plans over the winter are to remove most of the interior and get some light weight seats and harnesses in, rollcage also if time allows. Currently has some good handling modification so plan is to concentrate on getting it lighter and getting more track time next year. Eventually I want to enter hill climbs and sprints.

Pros

Fantastic through the corners
Great acceleration
Very forgiving on the limit
DCCD control for playing with the balance
Plenty of spares and upgrades

Cons

Plenty or spare and upgrades...
Pricey car for track use
No light weight unless you spend the extra on a Spec C
Get through tires

This is my track day toy. It's light (600kg), fast (200bhp)and great fun.
To be honest, I wanted a fast Caterham but couldn't afford one. This is a Tiger Super 6, does everything a Caterham can but for a third of the price smile
See you out there in 2016!!

I had a super six myself for a year. I even bought a trailer and tow car.

Being tall I had a problem depressing the clutch and changing gear fast enough for the really twisty circuits.
A floor mounted pedal box was planned,to give more foot room but after a really wet and cold trackday, I decided on another tin top.

It sold to a hill climber in Guernsey, so I know they are capable cars.

I have just bought a 2003 Audi S3 which I am going to convert into a track car.

Plan is to get some coilovers, uprated pads, big ARBs and some R888s together with a whole load of weight saving. Should be some good cheap fun.
