Some interesting cars on here for all budgets, l have done a few track days in my BMW-Z4 it is my sunny day toy but really and enjoy the odd track day at Croft ( my local circuit) really good bunch of people in this fun day hobby,
Seen lots of fantastic cars on circiut for all budgets, there is one regularly at Croft which l did not see mentioned on this thread, Mini Turbo, there is one goes round as fast as most cars, as quick as me on the straight but leaves me standing in the bends, l think you could get one of these on track for less than £3500, l am thinking of it as l don't want to wreck my car and spoil the fish and chip run to Whitby,

Ok this is mine

When it started, we did a stag do in £300 bangers which involved a trip round Lincolnshire and a trackday however after the event we were hooked. As you all know it escalates rapidly so between us we set some rules, The car must be VAG, 200bhp max and cost track ready no more than £1000 not including wheels, tyres or cage. This is where mines at now. Give or take a few quid it's at a grand. As it is now it's running a 1.8 20v turbo, Mk4 rear brakes, Mk4 312mm front brakes, Mk4 Dash and complete loom, Seat Ibiza rear anti roll bar, Perspex Windows, bigass intercooler and a decat.

A BaT R300

My best mate and I had been running/using our own cars for many cars. Eventually we both ended up with R26Rs. Then one night on a night out realised just how ££ much we had tied up trackdaying between the 2 of us.

This way, we save a fortune (sharing the car), drive to the events in much more comfort, don't have to do any prep work and have a quicker car.

Was at Blyton last weekend for my first trackday in my mr2 roadster. I've had fwd, rwd, mid engined. In all the time I've always enjoyed whatever I had at that time on track.
At Blyton there was the usual mix, mx5s, caterhams, clios, race prepped mini (v fast), evos, Scooby etc. Everyone enjoying it at their own various levels of expenditure speed and fun.
My little mr2 stands me at 2.5k so far and was neither fastest or slowest. I had a couple of lairy slides and one full spin, lots of nice controlled smaller drifts and generally abused the buggery out of it all day. It cost me 28 quid in petrol and 99 quid for the day itself. Happy days.
I think you just need to decide what your budget is which determines your speed on track but doesn't necessarily determine you having any more fun than others.
The main advantage to me of going back to a cheaper (throway) car is you literally don't worry about the odd cone ping or gravel rash. That doesn't mean chucking it about recklessly however, I'm just finding the love again for basic fun days rather than lugging the trailer and a 40k track monster around :-)

I have never done a track day but intend starting next year with my daily driver, a 2015 V8 Mustang!
Yes, I am a bit scared.
I normally prefer small/light cars, but I've got a thing for the 2015 Mustang, especially in that colour. I saw a few in the US a few months back and they look great in the metal - even my wife likes them.

Enjoy your new car!

They do look nice. The UK spec V8s come with big ass 15 inch Brembo brakes so they might be okay on the track too (old models came with massively under rated brakes for trackdays).

Haven't spotted any VX's on this tread so thought I'd add mine.

It started as a basic 145bhp 2.2 vx220 but last year I added a supercharger. Power is now around 240bhp with weight at 900kg. It's great on track with fun rear wheel drive handling to keep it interesting, quick enough to keep up with some quick stuff and cheap enough to run with decent tyre/brake life. It's also usable on the road in between track days..

The only downside is that I have the modding bug and keep wanting to spend cash (just added ally belled discs, about to upgrade suspension to track spec, I want to put stickier tyres next year etc. etc.)

Plenty of video's on Youtube. Here's some clear laps from Brands hatch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvYDxomLwwg

So very tempted to go this route, seems to offer fantastic value for money for the performance.
