Unusual track car? How about a Cayenne Turbo with over enthusiastic driver. Back in 2005/6, I did a track day in my old Fiat Coupe 20vT at Bedford with GT config.

I was running about 250bhp, but was using dunlop D01J semi slick tyres so it cornered very well for a FWD.

A chap was hammering around in said Cayenne Turbo, fairly quick on the straights but over 2 tonnes in the corners made it very easy to get past. I had overtaken it much to the displeasure of the driver, who chased me down on the back straight. Those of you who are familiar with the long straight at Bedford using GT config will know there is a 60-70mph left/right at the end of it, before you join another shorter straight. On the approach to the left/right, the Cayenne was right up my backside, inches from my bumper. We were probably doing about 100-110 odd mph - I dabbed to brakes to brush off juuuuust enough speed to make the corner, and threw the old Fiat in. On this particular corner, you feed the power back in early and run wide on the right hand section to get a good run at the next straight. So I did this and got straight back on the gas. I peered up at the rear view mirror expecting the cayenne to be there in full view but he was no where to be seen. I checked left mirror, nothing. Right mirror, nothing. At that point when checking the right mirror, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye - the Cayenne. On the grass next to the circuit, doing about 70mph bouncing all over the place. He had understeered off trying to keep up with me on the left hander and gone straight across the grass at high speed! Multiple WTFs and laughter erupted from me and my passenger.

After multiple crapping of his pants I'm sure, he retired the 4x4 beast from the track. £4k Fiat turbo 1, £lots Cayenne 0.

The cars that I have seen on public sessions at the 'ring are a touch mind blowing (Reliant 3 wheel van probably the winner, and yes he did drop in), but if we constrain it to actual track days on normal circuits...
Bentley Continantals and Flying Spurs (several times, but with the mass involved it is still surprising)
Ford Capri
Fiat Cinquecento
Merc E55 AMG
Ferrari 308 GT4
Skoda Yeti
Focus Diesel Estate
Citroen C3
...

For every car, there is someone who would track it.

It made me feel sea sick just watching it;-)
Was it this one, rolling down the hill at Cadwell?

Strangest one I saw was a Spanish registered Mk7 Fiesta 1.4 TDCi at Bedford in late 2013. Credit to the driver, it was on the limit absolutely everywhere!

Actually, yes! I realised halfway through my last day, Bedford 20th July, that something was definitely not right. Sure enough, not a single MX-5 was to be seen!

I started doing trackdays shortly after getting my licence using a bog standard Rover 416SLilaugh

(that one's not mine by the way)

This was at Knockhill on their hot hatch days many years ago and it actually kept up with contemporary Gtis pretty well.

Very nice mate. Still miss the Coupe magic 3rd gear! The Fiat isn't the best track car as I'm sure you'll agree, but it is still fun going into corners trail braking and trying to provoke the thing as much as possible. I partcularly enjoyed baking my silver Brembo calipers to make them gold, and that 5 pot warble. Great car. Love the Delta also, one of those cars I will always want to own but probably never will, but still greatly admire them.

Took this around silverstone yesterday:

still performed well....

although with predicted results...

A black flag for a minor brake fire/smoke (I presume) saw me stop the session a lap or 2 early...don't know why they were smoking so much as they still felt good and worked properly!

Not unusual but rare this only seen 2 others on a track day

Oh its mine btw.

Seen a few odd track day cars one being an audi r8 v10 at pembrey was the slowest car out there, a 300zx which promptly lasted 2 session before losing all its coolant. But the best one was a reliant kitten running a hyabusa engine a really garage build that one.

Skoda Yeti, diesel round Brands, surprisingly fast
Ah more info has come to light since then. You take one Audi TT. You take one Yeti. You use various spanners etc.

et voila, one fast yeti that looks standard.

Its a ttrs underneath that's why.
There was someone in a white works van on the same bedford day as the fast yeti IIRC. Can't recall the company name.
