Im looking for a preferably rwd track car for under 5K for everything. I have limited mechanical knowledge but would hopefully use this to help me learn. I can have access to professional garage equipment but not all the time. I have looked at mazda mx5, mk2 toyota mr2, clio sport etc. Also looked into cheaper kit cars but feel this might be out of my depth. I also have garage space but only really for smaller cars so things like e36 wouldnt fit. I would prefer to trailer the car so would not need to tax and insure. What would be a good car for me based on these things?

familiar topic...
i would help qualify things, in that, 5k for everything would exclude a fast 5k saloon that's not track prepped!
i would stick with the lighter cars you've mentioned at around 2k and ensure it's track ready with a thorough service and finalise any basic mods (buckets etc).
a full service including refresh & fixes can easily be over £1k, and that's before mods. Most people don't sell their track car when it's at its best...
cost wise, i would recommend you buy a track car rather than build one. They'll be lenty more to do...
