How does Silverstone work out enjoyment-wise as a track day?
I've always thought that being set-up for F1 it would be so wide and long that, in my Elise at least, most of the lap would feel like being sat on a wide and straight road.
I haven't driven it since the early '90s in a Vectra Super-Touring (at some random Vauxhall promotional gig) where, down to my lack of ability, failure to get the line right through Becketts at speed really annoyed me.
Cheers,
Phil

I was expecting the same in my Clio.I've always thought that being set-up for F1 it would be so wide and long that, in my Elise at least, most of the lap would feel like being sat on a wide and straight road.

But it was a great experience.
Yes the track is wide and very long (3.9) miles I think. But there are some very very fast corners which are great to experience when your car is on the limit.

Was my first track day in the new car, which didn't pan out as I had hoped. Managed to get 8 corners in before a camshaft oil seal blew approaching Maggotts which ended my day at the first session! (apologies to the poor guy following me round when it went as the smoke cloud was quite impressive as the oil hit the exhaust) was fairly impressed with how the day was run however so hope to be back taking part in another Open track track day soon!

From memory I was either directly behind you or there might have been one car in between us when this happened. I'm pretty sure I got it on my go pro footage when I had a quick flick through. Haven't had chance to edit it yet Picture of it being towed back!
Cheers guys, yes I remember the cars at the services some lovely looking metal there!
The annoying thing is I had just fixed one of the camshaft seals a couple of weeks before and a different one went this time. But it shall be fixed!
I would love to see that footage whenever you get a chance to do it so I can at least prove it was on track for part of the day
