From experience I note your prayers have been answered to date. Please do not take up any new vices to erode that track record smile

I'll be there.

Not sure which prospect I am more terrified of; my first ever 'Ring track day on Friday, or the passenger laps, kindly offered by Nigel on Thursday. biggrin

I'm heading out through the tunnel on Wednesday morning, hopefully, if the French protesters haven't fully blockaded the E16 by then.

Hi everyone, I'm doing DN16 on the Friday.

What do you guys do with your stuff while your on track? That is, if you don't have a support car.

I'm quite looking forward to taking you out! . It's rare I get the opportunity to take someone out for their very first ring lap... biggrin

I'm scared in a good way. I think.

Trouble is it is an awesome machine, and at the speeds you pedal it, I doubt I'll be able to tell my Foxhole from my Adenauer, but I'm sure it will be an experience. I think I will need to hitch a ride in something slightly more 'mortal' pace too. Would also be useful to get a passenger lap in something 991 to get a bit more 'feel'.

I hope you aren`t scared in a bad way ! eeklaugh

Depending how it goes, we`ll do a quick first lap so you remember the experience. Later on if time permits I`ll take you out at a slower pace and talk about the different danger spots as we go.

Have you watched the series of instructional videos I did back in 2012 confused? Whilst they were for my FWD Golf, I`ve had a lot of people come up to me over the years saying it helped them a lot on their first visit.

Yes, all of them, at least once!

I've also watched a few 911 following another 911 videos (there was a good one from the July DN) which is useful for seeing when and for how long the brakes go on. Obviously there's a bit of 'translation' to make it sensible for a 996 turbo, but it's good to get a feel for which corners are a lift and which need brakes, and also how the car behaves over the gradients and bumps. Looks a bit spicy going into Foxhole if you have a lot of power down, and also looks trick on left-right into Wipperman.

Cool ! cool You might not think it`s gone in, but when you get there it will make more sense.

I`d be pretty amazed if you just lifted instead of braking on your first visit to be honest. I`m not meaning to be condescending but the ring is like no other circuit you`ve driven before and you`ll be pretty blown away after your first few driving laps. I strongly suggest going with the intention of just learning and enjoying it rather than trying to save a few seconds here and there.

I could well be misunderstanding what you are saying and if so I apologise wink

I was more looking at the braking from the POV of no mixing up corners where you must brake, with the ones where you don't and outbraking myself somewhere daft.

Main aims for the trip.

  1. Enjoy the car
  2. Do some laps of the 'Ring - a bucket list thing
  3. Do not crash
  4. Do not get in anyone's way
  5. Do not think about setting lap times
  6. DO NOT CRASH
TBH, I'm not even sure about putting a GoPro in the car - it's not the sort of place where I want to be doing laps that look good on camera (everything looks slower and less spectacular on video anyway!) on a first visit.

You are, but I do appreciate the well-meant warning, nonetheless.

Seeing as Adenauer has promised good weather I picked up some more tyres yesterday.

2016 Pirelli Slicks, Medium compound.

As you can see, they are barely scrubbed in

Seeing as the event is at the end of September I`m also taking Michelin Wets for heavy rain. Toyo R1R`s for drizzle, Pilot Sport Cups for cool but Dry and Slicks for conditions like every other DN I`ve driven

Whilst I will have tyres for any weather conditions apart from Snow, that doesn`t mean I`m not hoping for a warm sunny day cool
