For info: I've heard that Oulton are using the Island circuit during January and most of February - depending on how the weather goes perhaps. They did some safety improvement work around Island Bend and Shell Oils Corner (news on their site) so are either keeping people away or still finishing off. Javelin are also using Island 6/2 so I imagine other organisers probably will be too?
Just thought some folk might like to know

I was booked for a day in Feb but MSV emailed to say the full circuit won't be open until March. I moved my date to March but might book a day in Feb as it's cheap!

Loads still to do I heard. Tyre walls, banking between and gravel traps all out. All circuit activity excludes Shell until start of March.

Yea i had the same email. Booked on the 20th of Feb novice day ( really can't wait for my first track day biggrin . Is the islands setup still worth doing considering it's only my 1st track day so not setting any records?

Shell corner itself I can take or leave, even if you can gain a strong advantage by using the proper line which isn't obvious without being shown. It's a shame to lose the chicane though, one of my favourite parts of the circuit. Never done island layout before but am booked on a week tomorrow. Praying for dry, was monsoon style last time I went in November and that really sucked.

I've never done Island either. Agree with Clark3y on losing the Britten's chicane but there's plenty to enjoy at Oulton smile

I run 315 bhp through the rear wheels of my TVR.
I am sooooo looking forward to my first visit to Oulton Park,it is an awesome circuit, but I am not risking a wet day.
So its an expensive summer day for me, sadly.

Perhaps see some of you there this summer.

Oh hello! How random!

Hopefully you'll have the noise reduced on the Westfield by your next trip out! Seemed like a lot of faffing about to get it out on track which is never fun!

Managed to get it below the drive by noise meters but we're booked on at Combe next which I've just seen is a 100db static!

New exhaust I reckon rolleyes

I won't encourage you to risk your fee, but when I was at Castle Combe last July they didn't seem too worried about the noise test, partly because they were only allowing 12 cars on track at a time. However, I did find myself spending quite a lot of time at max revs, and we don't want to annoy the locals and get the track shut down.

And a friend of mine with a straight through exhaust on his Griffith wasn't allowed on track..... weeping

What bore is your tail pipe? I use track day cans on my TVR which fit a 2.5 inch diameter tail pipe, and knock about 5 decibels off. The simply clamp onto the pipe.
You can get different diameters from these people linky

The bung I used got me under the 105db static and passed the drive by!

I was still over 100 static even with the bung though!

Looks like the full circuit won't be open in March either frown I had booked another trip but not sure I'll go if it's the shorter circuit again.

Anyone else booked on for March?

Yes looks like it's the end of March before they are back on the full circuit. Maybe Javelin on 30/3 could be first car one?

MSV have said their next day (6th April) will be the full circuit but they want me to pay £20 to change it (as April is more expensive), AGAIN, from the date I had originally booked in early February. Tempted to cancel it and go with Javelin instead if they can confirm it will be the full circuit.

1. I might me wrong, but suspect that MSV will give you a credit to spend another time, not a refund
2. In my experience of both TDOs, Javelin tend to take more bookings than MSV, so you can end up waiting longer to get on track during the popular times of day, as there is always a numbers on track limit.
