Last year, we were able to get the RAF Marham track day weekends back on the calendar, with great success and much to the pleasure of all who came. After a bit of toing and froing to negotiate dates and fit around the other things that go on at Marham, we have now got the dates confirmed for the next Track Day weekend at RAF Marham - 28 and 29 May 2016.

It will follow the usual popular format, with an open pit lane, a track layout with plenty of challenges and something for everyone, a great friendly atmosphere, and the hallmark of being excellent value for participants with virtually all of the money from the entry fees going to RAF and local charities.

I expect that the website will be up and running to take bookings soon, and the team will post here - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... - when it is. Please ask any questions you may have on that thread - there are also plenty of discussion threads on the EA forum from previous track days if you need convincing what a good value, fun day or full weekend can be enjoyed.

While we hope to be able to run another one later in the year, this one is confirmed and we'd be glad to see you if you can make it - please spread the word.

MG Mark

..and the fine sand on the surfaces that shot-blast your vehicle, windscreen and visor.

Much as I applaud the charitable efforts of the day, I would never take anything other than an old wreak/ track slag onto the Marham surface. The cost of damage repair afterwards is simply too great (respray bonnet, wings).

The long straight is all brand new smooth as glass tarmac and much of the rest is concrete as we run a different route now compared to previous years which is far better to drive on.

Regards,
Marham Track Day Team.

Link would work better if it had an "h" in Marham.

I echo the comment above. I was assured last time that the surface had been swept and I would have no issues with stones. Far from it sadly. Cost me £400 for a new radiator. And it is hard on tyres. And it would have cost me a respray too if the car wasn't already awaiting one after the previous Marham track day.

It's a lovely track day, great people, good causes, but don't take anything shiny or valuable unless the whole of RAF Marham has been resurfaced in the last six months with race circuit quality tarmac.

I've attended 4-5 of the Marham track days over the years and stone chips were only a problem on the last even I went on in April 2013.

I'm really looking forward to the 28th. A few of us have booked on and it makes a nice change from all the strict rules of Brands Hatch etc, to have a great relaxed atmosphere where you can forget about the perfect lap and actually have fun chasing your friends.

Also it's good to take out some of the RAF boys and girls in the car as a thank you for their time!

You need to cover the entire windscreen too - mine has a thousand tiny stone chips in it after 5 Marham track days.

DOES ANYONE KNOW:

We're coming up from London, and have an additional guest traveling with us (not disclosed on initial sign up) can she still get in? or is there a cafe she can wait till were done racing - she's not looking to go round the track, just hang around somewhere - we not been before so not sure whats possible?

Contact the organisers and get her signed in in advance - Marham is just beyond the back of beyond. And about 10 miles from the nearest town. Bring her a helmet and she can passenger in something half decent. All track dayers will give passenger rides. But you will struggle to hire a helmet, and no way will she get onto an operational RAF base without full ID approval. It's not like a race track, where all spectators are welcome for free. It's covered by the Official Secrets Act

As for cafes, not a chance. It's Rural Norfolk, not the Kings Road. On base catering is a burger van. Off base its a fair way to anywhere.

And Nick, I'm not being rude, just factual. I used to live 20 miles from Marham, have done 5 Marham track days, and used to ride my horse in the woods not too far from the air base, at Shouldham Warren. Also, you will be there all day....hardly fair on her. I suggest if you cannot get her signed in, either leave her at home, or bring her best friend too and drop them off in Canbridge on the way up.

Grid like, isn't it? That's the military accommodation.......solely housing for the RAF personnel who work there. Just trying to help.........

no i do appreciate your help, there does look like a few little places within that grid like area, chip shop, a SPAR, hair dressers etc, like a little village, will she be allowed in to these places or is this just for the RAF personal?

The main entrance to the base is to the right of where it says Marham Infant School. You drive up that road that runs up the photo bottom to top, and turn right a little way before the red marker. Stuff to the left of the road is a public area, the base is to the right. A Londoner will find a Spar and a Naafi distinctly short of normal facilities. And no loo.....

If she was my guest I would get her signed in, as on an average track day you probably don't spend more than 1/3rd of the total time on track. She can enjoy your sparkling company for the other 2/3rds.....
