About to push the button on some track pads for the C63, anyone got feedback on these two brands specifically? Would be great to know experience with a heavier car. The R4 work out at £91 less than the RS29 (RS19 on the rear) combo...worth the extra money or not? This is the R4, not R4S. These will be mated with standard discs on the 507, standard calipers and Castrol SRF fluid.

Thanks in advance smile

Cannot comment on the R4 but I am a regular of the RS29 pads on my track day e36 328.

I'm assuming they're rather good then? Brake dust, bite, fade, noise, pad wear, disc wear? Questions, questions smile

Hi Mark, I suspect they will be epic, previous reviews have them up there with the best. I find, having tried so many pad types on my car that the good ones are really good and the not so good ones are crap. Well, only good for round town and MOT, novice track day at most.
Had the Pagid blue ones (RS4?) on my car and they were very good. Got Performance Friction now (can't remember the compound but from a single seater so a bit lairy) and they are the same, very good. They lock me up without much effort!
Going for Ferodo DS Uno next, read a bit about them and they seem like the next evolution.

Evening mate, I can't seem to find many pads for the war machine...I'm also going overkill as it weighs more than the moon smile I can't find many reviews of the R4 pads, will check out the DS Uno but I expect they don't do them for the Merc.

We're doing an evening at Brands on the 18th of May if you fancy it? £129 for a few hours of carnage.

LOL, well with a heavy car the pads will warm up to peak temp quickly at least.

Have a look on this site, you may have to get an old set and use the measurements like I did on my Esprit rears to match the pad.
Looks like they do most Mercs but the UNOs and 1.11 on some are made to order. For severe track daying the DS2500 probably isn't up to it, may be wrong but...

Unfortunately I'm booked up with work on the 18th. Very busy first half of 2016.

Oh well...some other time I'm sure smile

I've kept the rear pads that came off after Silverstone (that was an expensive day) but like a tit I threw the knackered fronts away. I think I'm leaning towards trying the Porterfields today, it's not a great difference in price but it's still a saving and every little helps the track budget!

The pads aren't so much an issue. On a spirited track day you can destroy a set of discs. My friend's C63 literally did this after one Bedford Autodrome track day.
Fit the pads (all round), change the fluid for Castrol SRF and do a cooling lap or two after every session. And, time wise, keep your outings moderate, so as not to punish the car.

Well I managed an airfield day and Silverstone before spanking the pads. 2 track days done on the new set (still on first set of discs). What was your mate doing? Driving round with the handbrake on? wink

RS29s are epic, very similar are DS Uno, both will last me a full 2 years of track days with discs changed at the same time.

They are expensive (£230 and £180 + vat) respectively, but, given that I get 2 years out of either and discs to suit, so the saving of time under the car & pad costs over 2 years is a no-brainer for me.

Man I wish they were that price on the Merc frown Try double that near enough. OK will go for the Pagid as I'm a brand we smile

Those prices are fronts only, the rears on the e36 are far less critical, I use Mintex 1144 on the rear & they make a good set, the rears lasting nearly twice the fronts.

Absolute cheapest I've found anywhere for the 63 are:

Front in RS29 £333.94 +VAT
Rear in RS19 £187.76 + VAT

As an option Ferodo DS Uno are virtually as good for 80% of the price on my calipers.

Well I got 2 replies...

One said they no longer have a parts department and the other was way more expensive than the price I quoted.

Still torn in all honesty. I can't find anyone using R4 pads on a C63 or any real solid reviews of them. The Pagid are just a given that they're the DBs so maybe I just go with that and stop trying to save money and try a different route.

Still got tyres to buy before Germany as well!

Very strange, I used both for different things last year, so will find out more when I do so again on the "no parts dept" answer.

The one about price could be down to yours being on a road car, my calipers are from a Tuscan racer, so maybe that makes a difference as they are "race" calipers.

Always worth a try. Where were you getting your other (lower) quote from?

Performance Braking was the lower quote, the Porterfields are from Whifbitz.

It's Camskill that has no parts dept at the moment. Only one other replied.

I think it's the MB tax that's added to anything you buy...that and the fact the calipers on this car are rather large. All my previous track cars have been cheap on consumables but I guess it's the price (literally) you pay to track a high (ish) end coupe!

AAAH, yes, I originally put Camskill down, but then deleted it when I found that out, sorry, I didn't realise you sent the emails that quickly.
